Jake Fiedler

I'm Jake Fiedler, an L. E. Dickson Instructor at the University of Chicago. I completed my PhD in 2026 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where I was advised by Betsy Stovall. My main areas of interest are geometric measure theory and harmonic analysis more broadly, and I often study questions in these areas using a set of tools from algorithmic information theory, especially Kolmogorov complexity. Here's some of my research. 

The rapid progress of AI models is (unfortunately, in my view) clearly the most important event affecting math right now. It seems very likely that many other fields, and even society more broadly, will experience similar disruptions relatively soon. Hence, I've started writing about AI, especially in relation to math, here. Opinions there are of course my own. In general, I believe that mathematics, especially human mathematics, has an enormous amount to contribute at this pivotal time. I am very happy to talk with anyone about things like mathematical AI alignment research, which I am currently trying to learn more about.
