Camp instruction mirrors the structure of a collegiate practice environment, giving athletes the opportunity to develop technique, compete with purpose, and learn directly from coaches working the game every day.
Jake Casteel — Camp Director and Head Coach of the Glenville State University Football Program
Jake Casteel brings elite defensive knowledge and a passion for developing young athletes into confident playmakers. With coaching experience from powerhouse programs — including Boise State, West Virginia, Cal Poly, Jacksonville State, and now Glenville State — Casteel focuses on building disciplined, technically sound defenders. Across his career, he's coached linebackers and special teams units that ranked among national leaders in defensive production. As a former standout linebacker at Northern Arizona, where he totaled 250 tackles and earned multiple academic honors, Casteel knows what it takes to perform at a high level.
Jake grew up in Morgantown, WV, and attended University High School until moving to Tucson, AZ, in his sophomore year. In Tucson, he attended powerhouse Salpointe Catholic, where he was instrumental in winning a state championship and was named Southern AZ Linebacker of the Year.
At camp, he emphasizes relentless effort, football IQ, and the refined skills that help players excel on and off the field. Casteel’s mission is to help every athlete leave better prepared and more confident, ready to reach their full potential.
Brian "Bubba" Hill
Brian Hill is the Associate Head Coach and Defensive Line Coach at Glenville State University. Coach Brian Hill brings decades of collegiate coaching to the Jake Casteel Football Camps. Hill played a key role in guiding one of the program’s most successful recent seasons, helping lead Glenville State to a second-place Mountain East Conference finish while developing All-MEC defensive talent and a unit ranked among the conference’s best in rushing defense and sacks.
Hill has consistently produced disciplined, fundamentally sound defenses that generate turnovers and limit scoring opportunities. His units have ranked near the top of the MEC in interceptions, scoring defense, and third-down efficiency, reflecting his emphasis on preparation, technique, and accountability.
Hill’s coaching journey spans multiple programs, including head coaching experience at Union College (KY) and leadership roles at Lenoir-Rhyne, Concord, Georgia Military College, Furman, and Virginia Military Institute.
A West Virginia native and Glenville State Hall of Fame defensive lineman, Hill combines deep institutional knowledge with decades of sideline experience.
At camp, he focuses on defensive line fundamentals, football IQ, and helping athletes understand how to prepare like collegiate players.
Nate Mullen
Nate Mullen brings a diverse background in Division I and Division II offenses, with experience in quarterback development and offensive instruction. Entering his first season as Glenville State’s Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach, Mullen arrives with experience designing and supporting multiple offensive systems built around balance, adaptability, and efficient playmaking.
Prior to joining the Pioneers, Mullen coached running backs at Lenoir-Rhyne, where he helped an offense rank among the conference leaders in passing while utilizing a versatile run game. His coaching path includes roles at UTEP, UVA Wise, Southern Miss, and Murray State, where he worked across position groups, special teams units, and recruiting operations — experience that shapes his comprehensive approach to player development.
A former collegiate receiver at Charlotte and Western Carolina, Mullen understands offensive execution from the athlete’s perspective and emphasizes timing, decision-making, and situational awareness. At camp, he works closely with quarterbacks and offensive skill players.
Az-Zahir "Az" Smith
Coach Az-Zahir Smith is the Special Teams Coordinator and the Cornerbacks Coach at Glenville State University. He joins the Jake Casteel Football Camps as one of the rising young defensive coaches in the college game. Smith brings recent Division I, FCS, and NCAA Division II experience, giving campers a current perspective on the modern defensive game.
Before arriving in Glenville, Smith served as a Defensive Assistant at West Virginia University, contributing to defensive preparation and working closely with the linebackers. His coaching path also includes time at Wofford as a Defensive Quality Control Coach, where he assisted with inside linebackers and special teams during a season highlighted by a ranked road upset, as well as a graduate assistant role at Shepherd University during a playoff campaign.
A former collegiate player at Erskine, Smith understands the recruiting journey firsthand and connects well with athletes navigating the next level. Known for his energy and teaching approach, he emphasizes coverage fundamentals, situational awareness, and building confidence within the defensive backfield.
Coach Dave McEntire is the current Director of Football Ops/Recruiting Coordinator and Special Teams Assistant. Coach McEntire brings nearly two decades of experience inside the Glenville State football program to the Jake Casteel Football Camps.
Known for his organizational leadership and attention to detail, McEntire has helped shape the daily structure that supports player development and team success. His background includes time at Buffalo State as an Assistant Defensive Line Coach and Junior Varsity Head Coach, where he began building the well-rounded coaching approach he carries today.
A former defensive player at Buffalo State, McEntire understands the demands placed on student-athletes both on the field and in the classroom. At camp, McEntire works closely with specialists and position groups, emphasizing fundamentals, situational football, and the small details that often make the biggest difference during competition.
Seth Arnold
Coach Seth Arnold represents the next generation of Glenville State football, bringing recent playing experience and a strong developmental mindset to the Jake Casteel Football Camps. Coach Arnold has contributed to the growth of multiple All-Conference defenders during one of the Pioneers’ most successful recent seasons.
In addition to his role on the defensive staff, Arnold works with Glenville State’s Strength & Conditioning program, giving him a unique perspective on athlete preparation, movement, and performance. His coaching style reflects the same consistency and work ethic that defined his own collegiate career.
A three-time All-MEC selection as a linebacker for the Pioneers, Arnold finished his playing career with 264 tackles and established himself as one of the program’s most productive defenders. Having recently navigated the transition from player to coach, he connects naturally with young athletes and focuses on linebacker fundamentals, physical development, and building confidence through repetition.
Jake Roser
Coach Roser joins the Jake Casteel Football Camps as the Defensive Backs coach at Glenville State. He brings recent Division I experience and a strong background working in multiple systems, valuable exposure to high-level preparation through roles at West Virginia, Jacksonville State, and Rhode Island.
Most recently, a Defensive Assistant at WVU, Roser worked closely with the cornerbacks and contributed to weekly game planning and film preparation. Prior to that, he was a Defensive Graduate Assistant at Jacksonville State during a Conference USA championship season, helping support a defense that competed deep into postseason play. His coaching path also includes offensive quality control responsibilities at Rhode Island, giving him a well-rounded perspective on both sides of the ball.
A former collegiate player at Geneva College, Roser understands the development process from the athlete’s perspective and brings a teaching style centered on communication, situational awareness, and technical growth.
Javon Butler
Coach Javon Butler brings a player-first perspective to the Jake Casteel Football Camps. Entering his second season as Wide Receivers Coach, Butler helped guide the Pioneers to one of their strongest conference finishes in recent years while developing an All-MEC receiver and building depth across the receiving unit.
A former standout wide receiver at Glenville State, Butler understands the demands of the position from firsthand experience. During his playing career, he appeared in 38 games and recorded 177 receptions for nearly 3,000 yards and 32 touchdowns, producing consistent seasons that placed him among the program’s most productive pass catchers. His background also includes time with the GSU Track & Field program and experience as a graduate assistant, which have contributed to his emphasis on speed, timing, and route precision.
At camp, Butler focuses on receiver fundamentals, body control, and helping athletes learn how to create separation through technique and awareness rather than relying solely on athleticism.
Cade Rohrbough
Coach Cade Rohrbough brings Division I offensive experience and a detailed understanding of special teams strategy. Coach Rohrbough is the Running Backs Coach at Glenville State. Rohrbough has worked within several successful offensive systems that emphasize balance, tempo, and situational execution.
Before arriving in Glenville, Rohrbough served as a Junior Analyst at Utah State, contributing to an offense that ranked near the top of the Mountain West Conference in scoring and total production. His coaching background also includes time at West Virginia working with the running backs during a season that saw the Mountaineers finish among the Big 12 leaders in rushing output, as well as offensive quality control responsibilities at William & Mary.
Known for his analytical approach and attention to detail, Rohrbough focuses on helping athletes understand spacing, vision, and decision-making within the run game.
