2020, brought a year of change with virtual learning and hybrid learning. This was a huge change for not only teachers but also students. In the UAE, schools shut down in March 2020 and remained virtual until June 2020. Schools then returned back to school with 50/50 hybrid learning in August 2020 and remained either virtual, hybrid or 100 percent.
I have had the opportunity to experience, virtual learning during the lockdown, hybrid learning, 100% learning during COVID times as well as virtual learning, where I was at home teaching and the students were in the classroom.
March 2020-June 2020:
Taught 100 percent remote (from home as the school was physically closed).
Used Zoom and Google Meet to facilitate all lessons during the day.
Would teach the lesson and then break out into small groups to support.
Educational Assistant would work with small groups to support lessons or individual needs during this time.
Daily check-ins with students (either 1:1 or small groups)
All lessons were both pre-recorded and taught to help those in different time zones
Daily slides were created and posted to google classroom to help support student learning
Assessments were given via Zoom/Meet and through google classroom.
Parent Teacher Conferences were held through Zoom/Meet
Each week students could participate in Recess and Lunch time clubs as well as community building activity every Thursday to end the week.
Office hours held in afternoon during independent work time or iTime.

iPad/Apple Pencil/Macbooks:
A variety of apps were used to help support student learning and to facilitate teaching.
Students were able to create a videos, tutorials and gifs, using Keynote, iMovie, Seesaw and Explain Everything.
As the teacher, I was able to use a variety of apps, google slides, google classroom, explain everything (as a white board), keynote and sheets.
YouTube
With our new way of teaching, it became clear that it was easier to film and pre-record lessons to have as a back up incase there were any issues with our live lessons. These lessons were there for students to use throughout day when they need to go back for a refresher. Students all had the ability to go to the youtube channel (and were asked to subscribe if they had a youtube account) and use the videos to help support their learning.

Each day students were asked to complete a daily physical challenge to ensure they got up and were active! I would film myself and ask them to copy what I did and post to Seesaw. We even had a week where different students were able to lead the physical challenge.
Highlights of Virtual Learning
Throughout virtual learning, we asked students to join us in spirt days, community activities as well as a series of challenges. It wasn't the same but it was a great way to keep students engaged throughout the 4 months.
August 2020 - October 2020:
Hybrid Learning
50 percent of students in the class and 50 percent online (virtual)
Rotation of days (AABBA)
iPad/ and webcam to help be able to see the students in the classroom as well as the teacher and those at home
Used iPad as white board to help support both those in the class and at home.
Students able to zoom with those in the classroom in breakout rooms to be able to connect the two groups
Starting a new school year during Hybrid Learning
Digital Notebooks
Students were each given a digital notebook. Each notebook is broken down with the lesson as well as the area for students to be able to complete their work. Students are then able to upload everything to Google Classroom or Seesaw and the teacher is able to easily interact with the students and help support their learning.

Students submit digital journals and then I am able to review their learning and give feedback using the apple pencil or comment section on in Google Slides.
Hybrid Learning Slides
With hybrid learning slides were incredibly important to help support students both in the classroom and those at home. This would allow those who understand the lesson to start and work through the work while, I was able to then support those in the class and those at home.
Sunday September 6th 2020.pptx100% Teaching in the classroom during COVID
As of October 2020, schools in the UAE went back to full 100 percent with COVID restrictions in place including; masks worn by everyone, social distancing and classroom and personal hygiene.

Zoom small groups and 1:1 check-ins that are longer than 5 minutes
iPad used a whiteboard to support both that at home and school
Covid safety rules followed for science experiments and STEAM activities
