Applications are invited from highly talented individuals for Ph.D. positions in Civil Engineering at Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence. The minimum requirement for the Ph.D. positions is an M.Tech degree in Civil Engineering/Disaster Management/Earthquake Engineering/Geoinformatics/Earth Science or related areas.
All full-time Ph.D. students admitted into the program shall receive a doctoral award (teaching and research assistantship) consisting of a tuition-fee waiver (50% or 100% tuition waiver as per merit of the applicant, see fee structure here) and a monthly stipend of ₹40,000 per month for the first two years, and ₹45,000 per month for the next three years.
About Disaster Management Laboratory
The Disaster Management Lab is a dynamic research hub committed to advancing the understanding of natural hazards and fostering resilience in vulnerable regions. The interdisciplinary team, led by Dr. Jagabandhu Dixit, has contributed significantly to the field through a series of impactful research articles that span a spectrum of disaster management domains focusing on risk assessment and mitigation strategies. These publications highlight the lab's dedication to addressing diverse aspects of disaster management, from urban flooding and landslides to seismic risk assessment and socio-economic vulnerability. The lab stands at the forefront of cutting-edge research, contributing valuable insights to the global discourse on disaster resilience.
GIS-based approaches have been instrumental in our lab's endeavors, including landslide susceptibility mapping and assessing urban flood susceptibility, utilizing cutting-edge technology and data-driven models to enhance our predictive capabilities. The integration of seismic hazard and social vulnerability stands as a testament to our lab's commitment to holistic disaster management. This research aligns with our mission to bridge scientific insights with social considerations. In flood-prone regions, the lab has conducted a groundbreaking spatial analysis of urban green spaces, emphasizing their role in flood susceptibility. Regarding tectonic considerations, our lab has engaged in fractal analysis of major faults and lineaments in the Indo-Gangetic Plain, a vital region prone to seismic activity. In landslide-prone terrains, the team has assessed geomorphodiversity and associated land use/cover change effects. The geologically complex regions have been the focus of our lab's research on assessing geomorphic anomalies, active tectonics, and geodynamic complexities.
The lab’s collective body of research encapsulates a holistic approach to disaster resilience, covering urban floods, seismic hazards, landslides, and structural engineering, and it transcends disciplinary boundaries, shaping the discourse on disaster management and fostering a safer and more resilient world.
