My project was to create a sensory room for a special needs school named The Ark in Jaffna, Sri Lanka using an empty room they already have. This included hiring a contractor to build a ceiling and partition for the room, painting the walls and add a mural to one wall, installing sensory equipment such as swings and a rock wall, built a shelf for storage of toys and equipment, built a tactile box, installed a speaker system to play calming music, and putting an interlocking floor mat to protect the kids. We also renovated a room to be used as a physical therapy room and we also installed physical fitness equipment already in possession of the school. I collaborated with the scouts at the Jaffna Hindu College to make this project a reality
I arranged a training session for the teachers led by Mr. Brett DeVore- MS,OTR/L. We also received pediatric rehabilitation equipment for children with cerebral palsy from the Cerebral Palsy Lanka Foundation (CPLF). .
