My name is Jafar Majeed Mir. I work as a Junior Resource Person at the National Translation Mission. I am a language consultant with an interest in translation between English and Kashmiri, Urdu and Kashmiri, and Hindi and Kashmiri, and vice versa.

I have completed my Master’s degree in Kashmiri Literature from the University of Kashmir. In the broad field of translation, I specialize in the translation of knowledge texts, interpretation, adaptation, Transcription and translation review.

Professionally, I have worked with Shaip AI for two years on Kashmiri translation and transcription projects. From 2017 to 2025, I was associated with Akashvani Srinagar, where I served as an announcer, compere, sound editor, script writer, translator, and trainer. During this time, I also led the Amarnath Yatra transmission for four consecutive years, a responsibility that was appreciated by the Ministry of Home Affairs and received recognition from listeners across the world.

Beyond broadcasting, I am deeply passionate about birding and community science initiatives. I had the privilege to serve as South Asia Coordinator for CitizenScience.Asia, working in collaboration with organizations like WWF, iNaturalist, GBIF, GigaScience, and the National Geographic Society to promote citizen engagement in biodiversity conservation.

I have a strong command of Kashmiri, English, Urdu, and Hindi, which allows me to connect with diverse audiences. Alongside my professional and academic pursuits, I also write poetry and fiction, exploring the beauty of language, nature, and human experiences.

I have translated two CSIR-NIScPR titles, How and Why in Kashmiri. I have also participated in the following major assignments of NTM: serving as a coordinator for the translation of the Indian Constitution into the Kashmiri language, conducting workshops on translated knowledge texts, and coordinating skill development programmes on translation in Indian languages.

Currently, I am working on reviewing translations of knowledge texts in Kashmiri.
