Jae Woong Shim received the joint Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from Yonsei University, Seoul, South Korea, and The University of Sydney, Sydney, NSW, Australia, in 2016. He was a Senior Researcher with the HVDC Research Center, LS Electric, from 2016 to 2017. He was with the Department of Energy Engineering, Inje University, South Korea, from 2017 to 2021. Since 2021, he has been with the Department of Electrical Engineering, Sangmyung University, Seoul, South Korea, where he currently leads the Inverter-based Power Systems Laboratory. His research interests span power system dynamics and control, operation and control of HVDC, FACTS, MTDC, MVDC, and energy storage systems, and wide-area control with renewable energy resources, with a focus on inverter-based power systems. He is a member of IEC Technical Committees TC22, TC115, and TC120; the IEEE PES Long-Range Planning Committee (SC3 and SC6, 2026–2027); the KIEE Headquarters Board (since 2026) and KIEE PES Board (since 2022); and serves as Steering Committee Member and Director of International Affairs for CIGRE Korea (2026–2027). He also serves on Korean government committees.
