The Dirty Devil River in Southern Utah exhibits extreme confinement. With 99% of the river being confined and 100% constriction, this channel is almost entirely bounded by valley walls with minimal opportunity for lateral migration. 

The high proportion of valley bottom occupied by the channel (95%) and active floodplain (95%) with only 5% inactive areas utilizes nearly its entire valley bottom. This is a bedrock-controlled canyon environment typical of many Southern Utah waterways, where the river has limited ability to develop extensive floodplains due to the confining topography.
