My classroom will be...
A "home away from home" where ALL feel welcomed and loved.
Include a diverse classroom library that represents multicultural and diverse literature.
Be open and honest about our differences. It's what makes us unique and brings us together.
Even if they don't get it from home... I will show them that it's OK to be true to yourself, to be different, to stand out, to be YOU!
Students will learn that it doesn't have to happen to them for it to matter to them. Stand up for those who are still fighting every single day. Hand in hand, we will rise together.
Technology in the classroom provides teachers with an abundance of tools to support student learning. Integrating technology and designing high quality instruction offers the opportunity to truly focus on students and to create learner and student centered instruction. Utilizing technology in the classroom doesn't need expensive hardware and software for each and every lesson. Educators can use everyday technology, paper, glue, scissors, pens, and pencils to truly enchase each lesson.
In today's day and age, technology is everywhere and children begin to use technology at a young age. As educators, instead of fighting this why not embrace it? I plan to utilize technology every single day to deepen overall student learning and engagement.
Some ways I plan to incorporate technology:
Engaging hands-on activities and projects. Whether that be online research, creating a digital presentation, or simple arts and crafts.
Educational games through students laptops.
Interactive SmartBoard Lessons.
Classroom iPads
Digital Field Trips
Educational Videos/Movies
With each year that comes and goes, education has allowed the world to thrive as students reach higher levels of knowledge. When you look closely, you're able to see that the world of education is like an onion with various different and complex layers. On the most outer part you will find the ultimate goal of education. This goal is to create students who think critically, deeply, and who are prepared for this ever-changing world. However, as we look further you will see there is simply more than just this.
Educators have some of the most important jobs in the world as they shape and mold the young minds of the future. My goal as an educator is simple... To teach children to be good, respectful, loving, and accepting. We, as educators, are suppose to cultivate an environment where all students truly learn so they can grow into well-rounded adults. When you sign up to become a teacher, it's a commitment to teach children to grow and learn (about everything, as much as they can). It is our job to show them this world in beaming light. For me, I want to be the teacher that represents my students and understands those who are different. The world is changing and it is time to change with it towards a more positive direction. I won't filter nor dull down the person or the educator I'm working to become.
Below you will find effective strategies that I will use in the classroom that align with my educational goals, beliefs, and values.
One strategy I will use with my students is inquiry-based learning. Inquiry-based learning is about triggering the curiosity that lives within each of us. This requires active participation from students by involving them in developing questions and bringing in real-life experiences. Inquiry-based learning engages all students through exploration, critical thinking, advance questioning, and emphasizes the student's role in the learning process. My students will be encouraged to explore, ask questions, and share ideas.
My classroom will be student-centered. Student-centered classrooms are focused on the student by placing the responsibility of learnings in their hands while the teacher serves as a facilitator in their learning. The interests of the students' become a priority and the teacher gives students their own voice by finding ways to provide learning experiences around what students value. This isn't easy and is accomplished by developing trust, communication, and cultivating a classroom community where mutual respect and a quest for knowledge guides behavior.
I will implement a positive classroom community built on love, respect, acceptance, and a growth mindset. A growth mindset is the belief that one can accomplish anything through hard-work and dedication. Mistakes will be seen as opportunities to learn and grow. The word "can't" won't be used in my classroom and be replaced with "I can't do this yet!".
Through utilizing inquiry-based learning, creating a student-centered classroom, and promoting a growth mind-set my students will reach higher academic levels than ever before.
"To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing its best day and night to make you like everybody else means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight and never stop fighting."
