Mastered by Colin McCabe (@mixedbycolin)
Original Artwork is “The Way of Good & Evil” by John Hailer, sourced from Smithsonian Open Access.

This record was written, recorded, and mixed between July 20th-28th of 2020 in my house in Delaware. The artwork was (poorly) drawn by myself and then scanned.
This began (impulsively) as the first attempt at recording and mixing a record without any help or input. All the songs were written in about three days, and they were recorded immediately afterward using a WA-47jr for pretty much everything, and an AKG D112 (for the kickdrum) through a Steinberg UR22 interface, recorded in Logic Pro X.
It's really janky sounding, but I think it accurately represents what I am capable of doing with what I have available to me. Because of this, I would HIGHLY recommend using headphones/speakers to listen to it! It won't sound that good on phone speakers, I promise!

Liner notes:
Inert - [adj.] having no apparent power of action, motion, or resistance.
It seems that at some point in all of our lives we experience periods of time where we feel stagnant, as if there has been no progression of any kind in our personal or professional lives. In some cases, we may even feel as though we have moved backwards from where we were. In my experience, these times are often when we make the most important progress. We are forced to look at why we are halted, and often those answers are not easy to learn, nonetheless understand. This record was written and recorded during a time that tested all of us in very different ways. Because of this, I believe this is some of the most honest work we have presented to date.

We would like to very sincerely thank all of those who have shaped us.
To each of our parents; Kevin, Maureen, Lori, and Jeff, for supplying us with the support, freedom, and most importantly the access to express ourselves artistically through the creation and performance of music.
jacob:
To Emma and Sabrina, for their unfaltering friendship, for being the most powerful, influential, and supportive women in my life, and for always being the voice of reason.
To Evan and Tom, for their inspiring friendship, musicianship, and for their tremendous sense of humor.
To my roommates; Steven, Mitch, Jacob, and Jason for always showing me love in the quietist, yet most important ways.
To Gabe, Raven, Danny, Jake, Katey, and Damen, for sharing their creativity and passions with me, and for being such wonderful family to come home to.
To my professors, for giving me the tools to explore my musicality to even greater lengths than I could have imagined.
Lastly, to Zack and Evan, for being my brothers, for putting up with my stubbornness, and for always trusting me.
zack:
Dad, for letting us constantly explore our art in his basement. Elissa, for being a constant source of encouragement and support. Jake and Evan, for continuing to be my companions in music. Lastly, Lulu, for keeping me sane when I’m at my lowest, and some how always sneaking into recordings here and there.
evan:
Thank you to planet earth and its universal wisdom for teaching me patience, understanding, clairvoyance and confidence to manifest whatever I wish to bring forth into my life.
Liner Notes:
Ellefant returns with their Sophomore release, Samuel. The album works as a sequel to the story told in the Nathan Bartholomew EP. This shows not only lyrically, but through melodic motives and chord progressions used throughout the album, some of which are taken directly from songs in Nathan Bartholomew. The opening track "In The Garden, Where We Met" introduces a new element of calmness to the record that Nathan's anger did not allow. The softer parts of the record give both the listener and even Samuel himself time to breathe and reflect on the events that have happened thus far, and where to move forward to.

Liner Notes
There is so much to learn from those who identify as women. I've learned of patient love through my mother, Olivia, and many other women, a love that doesn't ask but only gives. I believe their wisdom can be compared to the cyclical quality of nature, ever onward and only bending. I too would like to believe my branches are only bending. Suffering can be dissolved by turning this type of love onto yourself. Suffering is only protecting the Ego, not the Self.- Gabriel
