Summary:
During my Game Design Master's Capstone, I interned at Mars Games. Starting in June 2025, I began by completing documentation tasks for the systems design team. After my documentation, I started prototyping systems for AI Characters.
In November 2025, I filled the position of Lead Systems Design Intern. In that position, my responsibilities included tracking and submitting reports for the systems design team. I led stand-up and department meetings for the systems design team. In February 2026, my team and I had a direct impact on the successful Multiplayer Demo for the flagship title for Mars Games, The Wildest West.
Starting in April 2026, I started working on the Master Task List (MTL). The documentation of all the features, systems, and mechanics for The Wildest West was spread across Word or Google documents, Confluence pages, and old Jira tasks. I compiled all the planned tasks for the development life cycle for the game post-demo.
The goal of the Master Task List is to identify all the tasks for a game project and automatically update, clock hours, and complete tasks based on information added to a daily work tracker that was already being updated by the team. The MTL uses Google Sheet formulas to track which tasks are currently being worked on and submitted to the daily work tracker sheet.
The daily work tracker is a sheet where the team can update the work they are completing for the project. All activities related to the betterment of the Mars Games are recorded here by each team member. Any meetings, workshops, and on-task hours are included in column D.
The data collected from the Master Task List is compiled and reported on a Burndown sheet. This Burndown sheet features the development timeline for the project, and burndown charts for preproduction, 5 milestones, and the project as a whole. Like the Master task list, this sheet uses formulas to automatically update and stay current with the team's progress. Currently, Mars Games has multiple projects running at the same time. Each of them has a master task list that automatically updates an overarching burndown chart that includes all projects.
