Reflection questions

☆ How does your capstone connect to the community or to a culture or historical context?

My capstone connects to the community and includes historical context, it is an art piece that derives different aspects of the fashion trends during the victorian era. Our community has always connected through clothing pieces, trends, and self expression especially in our fast changing modern society. The performing arts and entertainment have become a staple in popular media and the direct effect of that is the importance of the costumes along with the visual aspects of each performance. Creating a historically accurate costume piece creates the immersion of an era, which becomes very important in Musicals like "Hamilton". To the observant eye, the pieces can be traced to the specific era and the subtle silouhette changes throughout the play demonstrate the changes in trends and therfor time periods.

☆ How have your fine arts courses impacted your education?

The fine arts have impacted my education in both a negative and positive way. On the negative end, when i focus on the plays i use a lot of my time and energy and cannot think of anything else until the performance is officially over, which affects my grades in a negative way as I do not have time to do my homework. On the positive end, It has allowed me to learn what i do and do not like about about standard school courses and plan my route for college which can allow me to completely focus on my art in a way that benefits me.

☆ Discuss any changes you would make next time to improve your project

If i were to do my project again i would allow myself more time so that i can add more intricate details, i would also invest more money (if possible) into the materials as to make it more accurate to the fabrics used in the victorian era. Although it was adjusted in a way that made sense to me, I would also make more changes in the pattern and change the order of steps.
