ARTISTS STATEMENT:

Looking back on my life, what are the things that stand out? Who are the people that have influenced me to become the person I am today?

Today I am a creative artist and a proud art educator. The discovery of this path was inspired by my mother who is an artist herself. My father has been a hard working and career driven person who has shown me that perseverance pays off. Creative influences have been my two grandmas, and my uncle Jay, they have shown me different ways to create and express myself through art. Growing up I have always had my brother and Megan to be there and support me through the ups and downs of pursuing your dreams.

This series of work holds pieces that are representations of the ones who have influenced me the most. Each piece is a wearable work of art. This is important to me because I want to be able to wear these works as you would wear a heirloom that is most precious to you. Each piece has a unique relic incorporated into the design. This unique relic is a connection that I have with each particular person. It may be a feeling, a memory, or an experience shared that represents that individual and how they have helped me most.

These intricate pieces of pierced metal reveal the positive influences one has on a person when you take out the negativity that surrounds us. I have used cold connection processes to attach and hold my reliquary works. Some of the finished metal surfaces have been oxidized to hold a solid dark contrasting design against my skin and the clothes I will be wearing with it.

EVEN AS SIMPLE AS STAYING AT THE FARM WHEN WE ARE TOGETHER EVERYTHING IS AS NICE AS THE NATURE AROUND YOU AND I LIKE TO HOLD ON TO EVERY MOMENT I CAN!

SISTERS THEY MIGHT SAY, BEST FRIENDS EVEN, BUT NOTHING IS AS CLOSE AS WE ARE EVEN WHEN YOU LIVE JUST ACROSS THE STREET. EVERY MOMENT GOOD, BAD, AND IN BETWEEN WE HAVE SHARED AND HELPED EACH OTHER THROUGH. SHE IS ALWAYS THERE LISTENING AND SUPPORTING ME AND THE PERSON I CAN COUNT ON FOR ANYTHING IN MY LIFE.

CRAFTS HAS ALWAYS BEEN MY CALLING, AND MY GRANDMA HAS BEEN MY BIGGEST SUPPORTER. WHEN I STARTED COLLEGE AND CAME HOME DURING THAT FIRST LONG BREAK, MY GRANDMA TAUGHT ME HOW TO CROCHET AND THAT KICK STARTED MY FIBER JOURNEY. WHEN SHE PASSED, SHE LEFT ME ALL HER YARN, AND MY GREAT GRANDMOTHERS CROCHET HOOK. I STILL CREATE MANY THINGS TO THIS DAY WITH HER SUPPLY.

UNCLE JAY THE CARPENTER

THE MASTER CARPENTER, FOLLOWING IN MY GRANDPAS FOOT STEPS MY UNCLE HAS MADE AND CREATED THE MOST MAGNIFICENT THING FROM WOOD. I USED TO GO INTO HIS WOOD SHOP AND MAKE THINGS FROM HIS SCRAP WOOD BIN. USING WHAT EVER HARD WEAR I COULD FIND FALLEN OFF HIS SHELVES TO CONSTRUCT THESE PIECE OF IMAGINATION. MY UNCLE JAY HAS BEEN AN INFLUENCE OF CREATIVITY AND NOW IN THIS WORK I HAVE DONE SOME OF THE SAME WITH HIS MATERIALS AND ECHOED HIS TOOL BELT IN MY DESIGN.

MY GRANDMA JOAN IS SO SWEET, CREATIVE , AND IS THE MOST CARING PERSON TOWARDS HER FAMILY. THROUGHOUT LIFE SHE HAS ALWASY HAD MANY GARDENS TO TEND AND CARE FOR AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN THERE TO HELP ME GROW AND BLOOM INTO THE PERSON I AM TODAY!
