King Aroo
King Aroo, syndicated by McClure, first appeared in newspapers in 1950. Never a huge hit, it nonetheless ran for seven years with McClure before being picked up by Stanleigh Arnold at the San Francisco Chronicle, where it ran exclusively until 1960, when Arnold and his wife Jane formed Golden Gate Features to distribute the strip across the country once again. Three King Aroo collections have been published, but unfortunately they only document the strip's first four years. The other eleven are at this point still unavailable outside of newspaper archives.
