Jacqueline Zhao - Teaching Statement

My teaching philosophy is to empower students' curiosity, innovation, creativity and free-thinking; all children are unique and have something special to bring to their education. With these values, I continue to learn and furthur hone my professional skills through continully seeking and learning new pedagogical concepts and strategies. I always display curiosity, passion, and interest in teaching Chinese in order to inspire my students to invest in their own growth and development to also become lifelong learners.

Teaching is learning from your students, colleagues, parents, and the community. Teaching is a lifelong process where you learn new strategies, ideas, and philosophies.

I have spent the past 20 years co-teaching and teaching early years, elementary and secondary students. In addition, my interactive and creative teaching style is very effective with them. I am a native Mandarin speaker and proficient in English and Cantonese. I've done many programs and curriculum design work and have assumed leadership roles at Island Christian Academy and the Canadian International School of Hong Kong. Language teaching is my passion. I present a curriculum incorporating each learning style and make the content relevant to the students' lives. I love working with children and watching their language develop and grow in a nurturing environment. Gaining new perspectives and experience in my lifelong journey as an educator is a top priority.

Next year, I will step into a new challenge, new school and new start. I am so excited to get ready to experience my new adventure.
