Thank You To Everyone Who Donated To Sponsor Our 8th Service Dog - Marley.
I’m Dave Harrold - and I am a storyteller. I like to tell stories about service, redemption, and the quiet power of purpose.
My stories are inspired by the mission of Patriot Service Dogs and the remarkable bond that is formed between incarcerated women and military veterans through service dogs.
The stories begin when a new puppy enters prison to begin its two-year journey to become a confident, fully trained, accredited service dog trained by female inmates who are dedicated to teaching not just the sit, stay, and heel commands, but also to help heal.
The ladies of the WOOF (Women Offering Obiendience and Friendship) dorm train with discipline and heart so these dogs can one day improve the lives of veterans who are living with physical and emotional wounds.
These ladies' commitment to the dog's success is a quiet kind of heroism, and becoming involved with the Patriot Service Dogs organization changed the way I see the world.
I’ve been deeply moved by the women who train the dogs and the veterans who receive them. Their stories of service, resilience, and renewal shape everything I write, say, and do. Whether I’m writing a children’s story about a brave service dog or introducing the science of achieving happiness for the inmates, my goal is always the same - to honor the human spirit and the quiet acts of kindness that keep each of us going.
It’s Spiritual.
At the center of all of my efforts is one theme: Service.
Service to others.
Service to purpose.
Service that transforms both the giver and the receiver.
Through storytelling, I try to make space for healing and connection between veterans and their dogs, between inmates and second chances, and to share that there is always something greater than ourselves. Because I believe that service, offered with love, is one of the most powerful forces we can ever experience.
Brig. Gnl. Scott Wiggins (retired) is the receipient of BEAR - one of the Patriot Service Dogs sponsored by Jacaranda Island residents.
In this video, Scott openly explains how he came to realize he was suffering from PTSD and how BEAR has made his life so much better.

Jacaranda Island is a self-named neighborhood in the Village of Pennecamp. If you have an interest in becoming involved with Patriot Service Dogs but don't live in our neighborhood, worry not. We are quite friendly and invite you to become an "Honorary Jacaranda Islander." (Read more)
Why Jacarada Island?
Well our neighborhood is surrounded by holes #3, 4, 5, 6, & 7 of the Jacaranda Golf Course (part of Cane Garden Country Club) so it seemed logical to consider ourselves to be living on this make-believe island.
Care to visit our neighborhood? Great, simply put Markridge Loop into your GPS app and it will take you right into the heart of .... you guessed it .... Jacaranda Island.
