If you want a professional-grade communication tool with superior noise isolation for office calls and Microsoft Teams environments, choose Jabra Evolve2; if you need audiophile-grade Hi-Fi music playback with an incredible 100-hour battery life and user-replaceable components, choose Cambridge Audio Melomania P100.
• Jabra Evolve2: Delivers industry-leading call clarity with 10 microphones and 54% better noise cancellation, but lacks the high-resolution audio codecs found in consumer audio gear. Best for professionals who spend their day on video conferences.
• Cambridge Audio Melomania P100: Offers exceptional 100-hour battery life, aptX Lossless audio transmission, and sustainable user-replaceable parts, but features no dedicated boom arm or business-specific UC certifications. Best for travelers and music enthusiasts who prioritize sound quality and longevity.
• The Verdict: The choice comes down to whether your primary goal is crystal-clear business communication or immersive, long-duration music listening.
The Jabra Evolve2 85 is engineered with one specific purpose in mind: making you heard clearly while blocking out the chaos of the modern workplace. If your daily routine involves back-to-back video calls, virtual meetings, or navigating a noisy open-plan office, this headset is built for you. The standout feature here is the audio architecture designed specifically for voice. With 10 built-in microphones, the system claims to reduce background conversation noise by 97%, ensuring that your voice cuts through even when colleagues are chatting nearby or construction is happening outside. This isn't just about hearing yourself; it's about being understood without interruption.
Comfort is another pillar of this design, particularly for those who wear headsets for eight hours straight. The over-ear design utilizes enhanced memory foam padding, which provides a seal that contributes to its active noise cancellation (ANC). This ANC capability is significant, canceling 54% more ambient noise than previous iterations. For someone flying on a plane or sitting near a loud HVAC system, this level of isolation allows for deep focus. The inclusion of a foldable boom arm means you can switch between a discreet casual look for general listening and a professional stance for critical calls, all while maintaining the "busylight" visibility that signals your availability status to coworkers.

However, this product is not for everyone. It is optimized for Unified Communications platforms, specifically Microsoft Teams, and includes a specialized USB-A adapter for plug-and-play functionality. While it handles music, the 40mm dynamic drivers are tuned for clarity and leak tolerance rather than bass-heavy, dynamic range performance. If your primary use case is streaming high-fidelity lossless audio or gaming where latency matters more than call clarity, the Evolve2 might feel too functional and not enough fun. It is a serious tool for work, not a lifestyle accessory for entertainment.
The Cambridge Audio Melomania P100 SE takes a completely different approach, prioritizing the listener's experience over the caller's clarity. This headset is designed for those who demand studio-quality sound and extreme endurance. The headline specification here is the battery life: up to 100 hours of playback on a single charge. This translates to over four days of continuous listening, which is transformative for long-haul flights, extended road trips, or simply forgetting to charge your device for weeks. Unlike many competitors that lock batteries inside sealed units, Cambridge has made both the battery and earcups user-replaceable. This design choice speaks directly to sustainability and long-term value, allowing you to keep the headphones running for years rather than discarding them when the battery degrades.
Sound quality is where this model truly shines compared to the Jabra. It supports aptX Lossless transmission, capable of delivering glitch-free, high-resolution audio at 24bit/96kHz. This ensures that every detail of your favorite track is preserved from the source to your ears. The Class AB amplification drives the signature Cambridge sound, offering a richness that generic consumer headsets often miss. Features like Wear Detect automatically pause music when you take the headphones off, and the adaptive EQ allows for a 7-band adjustment via the app, letting you fine-tune the audio to your specific taste. Whether you are into classical, jazz, or electronic music, the ability to customize the frequency response makes this a versatile companion for any genre.
This headset is also ideal for travelers who need a reliable connection without constant interruptions. Multipoint connection allows you to stay linked to two devices simultaneously, so you can listen to music on your laptop and instantly switch to a phone call without fumbling with settings. However, it lacks the specialized hardware for business calls that the Jabra offers. There is no boom arm, and the microphone array is not marketed for reducing 97% of background chatter in a busy office. If you need to conduct sensitive business calls in a noisy environment, the Melomania P100 might struggle to isolate your voice as effectively as a dedicated business headset. It is a premium music player first, and a communication device second.
• Best for Battery Life → Cambridge Audio Melomania P100: With 100 hours of playback versus the Jabra's 37 hours, the Cambridge unit wins decisively for marathon sessions.
• Best for Call Clarity → Jabra Evolve2: The 10-microphone system and 97% background noise reduction make it the clear winner for professional teleconferencing.
• Best for Music Quality → Cambridge Audio Melomania P100: aptX Lossless support and Class AB amplification provide a significantly richer, higher-resolution listening experience.
• Best for Office Environments → Jabra Evolve2: The MS Teams certification, busylight, and boom arm are essential tools for corporate workflows.
• Best for Sustainability → Cambridge Audio Melomania P100: User-replaceable batteries and earcups extend the product's lifespan far beyond standard disposable electronics.
• Best for Airplane Travel → Both, but Different Needs: The Jabra offers superior noise isolation for sleeping or working, while the Cambridge offers endless entertainment time for long flights.
• Best for Gaming Latency → Cambridge Audio Melomania P100: The dedicated gaming mode ensures lower latency for synchronized audio, whereas the Jabra focuses on voice synchronization.
• Best for Comfort Over 8 Hours → Jabra Evolve2: Memory foam and the specific weight distribution of 10.08 ounces are designed for all-day professional wear.
In my opinion, if you are buying these headphones specifically for airplane travel, the Jabra Evolve2 is the safer bet for productivity and silence, but the Cambridge Audio Melomania P100 is the superior choice for pure enjoyment and endurance. I would personally buy the Cambridge Audio Melomania P100 because the 100-hour battery life and user-replaceable battery solve the biggest pain point of air travel: running out of power mid-flight. The ability to swap the battery means I never have to worry about the device dying, and the aptX Lossless audio turns a long flight into a concert hall experience. While the Jabra is excellent for work, the Melomania P100 offers a more future-proof, enjoyable experience for the average traveler who values music and convenience above specialized business features.
The Cambridge Audio Melomania P100 offers 100 hours of playback, vastly outperforming the Jabra Evolve2's 37 hours, making it ideal for multi-day trips without charging.
Yes, it features 40mm speakers for music, but they are tuned primarily for call clarity and speech intelligibility rather than the high-fidelity, bass-rich sound of the Cambridge unit.
Yes, the Melomania P100 SE is designed with user-replaceable earcups and batteries, allowing you to maintain the headphones for years rather than replacing the whole unit.
Both support rapid charging, but the Cambridge Audio specifies that a 5-minute charge can provide up to four hours of playtime, while the Jabra requires 2.5 hours for a full charge.
