Hopefully some of you will have followed my posts from my recent trip to Ukraine delivering aid vehicles in conjunction with @Jeepsforpeace.
Far from putting me off, the trip has inspired me to put my name down for another one later in the year (hopefully November), but this time I want to represent Ripon & Yorkshire much more fully.
To do this I would like to source both a vehicle ( or more!) and relevant aid supplies rather than rely on @Jeepsforpeace to do all that work.
Thus if you, or someone you know, has access to any of the following, please get in touch and we can discuss how best to make the best of things.
A large SUV or pick up vehicle (or more than one!), almost, but not quite at the end of its useful working life.
4 wheel drive is preferable but not essential.
Vehicles on the last convoy included;
Mitsubishi L200, Nissan Navarra/Pathfinder, LR Freelander, LR Discovery & Vauxhall Antara but anything of that type and style would be acceptable.
e.g Ford Ranger/Explorer, Toyota Landcruiser/Hilux, Dacia Duster, Izuzu Dmax, Jeep Cherokee/Wagoneer etc. – you get the idea.
I need a local friendly garage/service centre that will give any vehicle a quick once over to see if can safely make the 1500+ mile trip to Ukraine.
Once there, a dedicated local team of mechanics will ensure any vehicle can be put to good use.
Thirdly is (inevitably!) money, as the cost of getting any vehicle to Ukraine is not insubstantial and includes ferry charges, fuel and sustenance for the driver for a 3 / 4 day journey.
On my last trip a couple of Americans had contacted their local Ukrainian community, and found a Ukrainian doctor working in a local hospital, who had a sister working in a hospital in Lviv!
Hence they flew over with suitcases full of 'second hand' but perfectly serviceable hospital equipment ( ECG, blood pressure monitors etc.)
Do you know anybody with similar connections – it would be lovely to travel out with much needed 'kit' – anything from kids clothes & toys, to essential medical or humanitarian supplies.
If you think you can help in any of the above, or ways I haven't thought of yet, please get in touch here.
