In a statement in the Assembly, Stalin said the scheme was named as Magalir Urimai Thogai(Rightful Money for Women) only because the government wanted to recognize the sacrifices made by women in running their respective families. Talking in detail about the scheme, Stalin said the new programmee is modelled on the lines of Universal Basic Income which is being implemented in several countries.

He distributed the cash assistance to women belonging to a group of flood-affected families gathered near the Velachery lake on Sunday. Following the launch of the scheme, he inspected the distribution of cash assistance at TUCS Fair Price Shop in Velachery.

Since unemployment was rendered unviable through various acts of legislation, the Soviet worker, in contrast to a Capitalist worker, was more secure economically.[10] In return for working, a Soviet worker would get an individual return in the form of a money wage; however, during the period under the New Economic Policy (1920s), hyperinflation rendered money effectively useless, and wages sometimes occurred through bartering [citation needed]. Money wage in Soviet parlance was not the same as in Capitalist countries.[2] The money wage was set at the top of the administrative system, and it was the same administrative system which also set bonuses. Wages were 80 percent of the average Soviet worker's income, with the remaining 20 percent coming in the form of bonuses. The Soviet wage system tried systematically to make wages more equal; for instance, the relationship between wages was termed "ITRs", a measure of comparing wages across occupations. For engineers and other technical workers ITR was 1.68 in 1955, but had decreased to 1.21 in 1977.[11] Social wages were also an important part of the general standard of living for an average household; it stood at 23.4 percent of income for the average Soviet worker and their family, and at 19.1 percent for the family income of collective farmers. In the period between 1971 and 1981, the social wage grew faster than the money wage; the money wage grew by 45 percent for workers and employees and 72 for workers at collective farms. In contrast, per capita income from social wages increased by 81 percent. Social wage took many forms; it could be improved health, education, transport or food subsidies, which was the responsibility of the state, or the improvement (or introduction) of sanitation and working facilities.[2]

To provide institutional care to widows, destitute women, deserted women, adolescent girls and differently abled women and their children who are economically and socially backward by giving them protection, education and vocational training.

"This entitlement allowance will help the livelihood of women, wipe out poverty and empower women to live with dignity. This is the Dravidian model," Mr Stalin said, delivering on what was his key election promise.

Thara, whose husband is an informal worker, told NDTV that the money will help her give pocket money to her children. "Our family income is less and now I can make my children a little happy by spending money on their studies," said Thara.

Earlier, the ruling DMK had suggested the scheme will benefit all women heads of families. However, under the scheme, only a woman nominated by her family with an annual income of less than Rs 2.5 lakh, can avail the benefits.

The scheme also raised questions over its cost to the exchequer and brought under focus the state's outstanding debt of Rs 7.5 lakh crore. Tamil Nadu has an estimated revenue deficit of Rs 37,540 crore this year. However, state Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu said that the money released through the scheme "is well within permissible limits".

The DMK had been trying to win over the women voters especially after the death of former Chief Minister and AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa, who had a huge women following. Soon after forming the government, the DMK had announced free bus rides for women in local buses across the state.

Rolling out the first-of-its-kind scheme in the country planned with a yearly allocation of `12,000 crore at a function held in Kancheepuram, the CM said household work done by women has not been given its due recognition. Stalin gave away debit cards to 13 beneficiaries at the event.

The CM also referred to a host of schemes for girl children and youth, including free bus rides for women, Pudhumai Penn scheme for girls to pursue higher studies, and Naan Mudhalvan scheme for providing employment opportunities for youth. Stalin garlanded the statue of Annadurai on his 115th birth anniversary before launching the scheme on Friday.

Free bus travel for women in government-run buses up to 30 kilometres was among the first five initiatives implemented by Chief Minister MK Stalin, soon after assuming charge in 2021. A year later, the State Planning Commission conducted a survey and studied the impact the scheme had had on women users and their households.

According to the report, about 50 percent of the women travellers were aged over 40 years, indicating the popularity of zero-ticket travel among the older women in Tamil Nadu. It was also found that although the scheme was operational in buses originating from urban places, women from rural households benefitted more from it than the urban users.

DMK magalir thittam is a flop. By paying Rs.1000 and free bus travel had failed miserably. Women had understood that they are being treated by DMK AS DOGS. Just by throwing some freebies they think that women will vote for them. By throwing some biscuits to magalir and getting ELECTED they can mint money through illegal means. This time things will change for better.

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister launched the 1000 Rupees Scheme to provide monthly financial assistance for women on the birth anniversary of the late C N Annadurai, a Dravidian icon. The Tamil Nadu (TN) Government launched the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam (Kalaignar Scheme for Right of Women), or 1000 Rupees scheme, in Kancheepuram, the hometown of C N Annadurai on 15 September 2023.

Under the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Scheme, the TN Government provides financial assistance of Rs.1,000 every month to the women residents of Tamil Nadu. The TN Government identified around 1.06 crore women beneficiaries under the scheme. The TN Government received 1.63 crore applications for the scheme, and 1.06 crore women were shortlisted as beneficiaries after verification based on the eligibility criteria.

The TN government also issued ATM cards to eligible women to withdraw the allocated amount as needed. The Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Scheme is beneficial in improving the living standard of the citizens of Tamil Nadu.

All women who are head of the family in Tamil Nadu and above 21 years are eligible. However, the family of the woman should not have an annual income of above Rs.2.5 lakh, have more than 10 acres of dry land or five acres of wetland, have a car or four-wheeler, and the annual household power consumption should be below 3,600 units.

Eligible women can apply for the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Scheme by logging into the KMUT website and filling out the 1000 Rupee Scheme Application Form/Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai Application Form. They can apply for the scheme by visiting ration shops.

Because they are considered charities, the philanthropic groups "don't need to disclose the names of their donors," Mayer tells Fresh Air's Dave Davies. "These are the groups that are called 'dark money groups,' and they thus become kind of secret banks that affect American politics in a huge way without most people understanding who is behind them."

I think the genius of the Kochs is the magic trick that they've really figured out, which is that it's not just their money funding this; they've created a consortium. It's a club where you've got maybe 400 people who are cumulatively enormously wealthy. I tried to figure out at one point how many billionaires were involved just in the first term of Obama's presidency, because they were funding so much of the opposition to Obama, and I got to a count of 18 billionaires who are known and whose net worth put together was $214 billion. Now, obviously they're not spending all of it on politics, but it gives you a sense of the throw-weight of this tiny, concentrated group of people. 0852c4b9a8
