Develops confidence in art practice and introduces new ways of designing without overthinking.
Overview
Introduction presentation - bring out materials, brief history of brand and connection with underground art scene (street art, graffiti).
Pause presentation after explanation - have students pick up materials, bring back to desk.
Resume presentation, demonstrate how to use pens, follow-along for students.
Independent work, students complete activity by themselves, or work with peers to make collaborative blob art pieces.
Activity: Blob Art
This is an amazing way for artists of all types to experiment with new mediums, and warm-up for intensive drawing and painting activities. It is a way to think creatively with a simple wash of color and a non-polygonal silhouette of a shape.
Using the Posca pen of your choice, create some solid blobs of color- the shape should be random. Do not think at all making these shapes! It only matters that it is a shape, and it is filled in.
After the shape(s) are dry, you can continue layering with Posca or other supplies like pen and colored pencil. Use line and different values to make the shape into an object. Keep adding to the blobs until they are representational instead of abstract drawings!
Try with someone else - one person draws the blobs, one person draws what they think the shape is.
Objective: Students will learn how to use Posca brand paint markers, including a brief history of the company and legacy in the world of street art and artist customization.
Activity: Brief presentation of materials. Students get a chance to pick the pen color of their choice and experiment on thick bristol paper, and printer paper.
