IX Illinois Portuguese Language Connection

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 26 - UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS AT URBANA-CHAMPAIGN (PORTUGUESE)

SEMANA DE ARTE MODERNA 100 anos

The Illinois Portuguese Language Connection is a collaborative initiative between the 3 largest universities in Illinois: Northwestern University, The University of Chicago, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

The main motivation for this annual meeting is to bring together Portuguese students from the three largest universities in Illinois to interact in Portuguese, in a dynamic and festive event. This year we are returning to face-to-face meetings, after a break and an online event due to the pandemic. See this page for links to previous editions of the event.

The ninth edition of the Illinois Portuguese Language Connection will take place at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on Saturday, February 26, 2022.

This year's theme will be the celebration of 100 years of the Modern Art Week.

The Modern Art Week, which took place in São Paulo in February 1922, marked the beginning of Modernism in Brazil and became an important cultural reference of the 20th century. It denoted a true renewal of language, in the search for experimentation and in the creative freedom of breaking with the past. Art, then, passed from the avant-garde to modernism!

During Saturday, we will enjoy several activities related to art. Students and special guests will learn more about Brazilian Art from the last 100 years, getting involved with different types of artistic-cultural experiences, creating art projects and participating in a musical performance.
