2026.8 AOGS 2026 Fukuoka에서 6편의 연구 발표
박지연, 장상범, 이가영, 조수빈, 김지환, An이 AOGS 2026에서 본인들이 연구한 결과를 아시아지역의 연구자들에게 발표하였습니다.
Members of our research group participated in the Asia Oceania Geosciences Society (AOGS) 2026 Annual Meeting held in Fukuoka, Japan. Jiyeon Park, Sangbeom Jang, Gayoung Lee, Soobin Cho, Jihwan Kim, and Hoang Thi An presented six research studies conducted in our laboratory and shared their latest findings with researchers from across Asia and Oceania. The conference provided a valuable opportunity for our members to exchange research ideas, receive feedback from the international scientific community, and broaden their academic perspectives.

수자원공학 및 수문학 분야의 다양한 주제에 걸쳐 총 8편의 발표를 진행하였습니다. AI를 활용한 강우 및 유출 예측부터 설계강우량 산정 및 시설물 수명 예측 등 다양한 연구 결과를 발표하였습니다.
Our research group presented a total of eight studies at IAHR-APD 2026, held from July 19 to 21, 2026. The presentations covered a broad range of topics in water resources engineering and hydrology, including AI-based rainfall and runoff forecasting, design rainfall estimation, and infrastructure service-life prediction. Through these presentations, our members shared their latest research findings with researchers and professionals from around the world.
2026.6 국제공동세미나 개최: Kookmin University, Institute of Geography and Water Security Khazahstan, and Yonsei University
국민대학교, Institute of Geography and Water Security Khazahstan, 연세대학교는 적설, 융설, 빙하가 수자원의 소스로 작동하는 지역에 대한 연구 결과를 발표하고 공유하는 국제공동세미나를 개최하였다.
Kookmin University, the Institute of Geography and Water Security of Kazakhstan, and Yonsei University held an international joint seminar to present and share research findings on regions where snowpack, snowmelt, and glaciers serve as important sources of water resources.The seminar provided an opportunity to exchange research outcomes and perspectives on the hydrological processes and water resource challenges of snow- and glacier-fed regions.
2026.5 IWRL, 2026 한국수자원학회 학술발표대회에서 11편 발표 및 6편 우수발표상 수상
수자원공학 및 수문학 분야의 다양한 주제에 걸쳐 총 11편의 발표를 진행하였습니다. 이 중 6편의 발표가 우수발표상을 수상하였고 특히 학부생 연구 부문에서도 최우수상을 수상하여, 학생 구성원들의 활발한 기여를 보여주었습니다. 수상하신 모든 분들께 진심으로 축하의 인사를 전합니다.
IWRL presented a total of 11 studies covering a wide range of topics in water resources engineering and hydrology at the 2026 Korea Water Resources Association (KWRA) Annual Conference. Among these presentations, six received Outstanding Presentation Awards. In particular, our team also received the Best Award in the Undergraduate Student Research category, highlighting the active participation and excellent research contributions of our student members. Congratulations to all of our award recipients on their outstanding achievements!
2026.5 IWRL Hosts International Seminar with Vietnamese Researchers
On May 14, 2026, the Interdisciplinary Water Resources Research Laboratory (IWRL) at Kookmin University hosted an international seminar with two distinguished researchers from Vietnam: Professor Pham Van Chien of Thuyloi University and Dr. Anh Phuong Tran of the Water Resources Institute. Participants shared their recent research and exchanged perspectives on shared challenges in water resources engineering and hydrology. The seminar laid the groundwork for future collaboration and reflects IWRL's ongoing commitment to international academic exchange.

2026.1 Professor Ju-Young Shin received the Minister’s Commendation (Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment)
Professor Ju-Young Shin received the Minister’s Commendation (Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment) on Dec 31, 2025, for her leading research in Heatwave Impact-based Forecasting. Her work has been instrumental in enhancing the KMA's ability to provide context-specific weather impact data through scientific analysis. Our research team is seeking a way to deal with the unsolved and emerging challenges in water-related fields as well as natural disasters using an interdisciplinary approach. We are collaborating hydrology, hydraulics, climatology, meteorology, civil engineering, data sciences, AI, ecology, forestry, agriculture, remote sensing, human factors, physiology, and social sciences for finding a new solution to these challenges. We are trying to find ways to warn the impact of natural disasters such as floods, heavy rainfall, typhoon, gust, heat waves, and cold waves on the public and individuals by collaborating data sciences, hydrology, hydraulics, meteorology, human factors, physiology, and social science. Specifically, real-time monitoring and prediction for flood and heavy rainfall using real-time observation, data assimilation, and AI are the main research topics of our research group. Additionally, we are attempting to suggest a framework of the digital twin in hydraulic infrastructure and water resources management based on AI and virtual reality.
