Attendance

Registration:

  • please just arrive early on the first day to pickup your badge. If you are like me and dislike clip on badges - just bring your own lanyard and the badge will attach.

Location:

  • 2019 IWPSS will be at the UC Berkeley Space Sciences Laboratory (SSL) Conference Room 105. From the SSL main parking lot walk towards the large glass windows and enter the main atrium. The conference room is directly in front of you.
  • SSL is in the hills above UC Berkeley Campus (1000 feet or 300m elevation above main campus) so it is a bit of a hike from Berkeley or even UC Berkeley Campus. Easiest ways to get there are:
    • shared ride (e.g. Uber or Lyft),
    • self car (paid parking available at Lawrence Science),
    • walk (quite a ways uphill), or
    • there are buses from the Berkeley area (the P (Perimeter) line from Berkeley BART to the main campus and H (Hill) line to SSL - Google Maps can guide).

Paper presentations:

  • See the schedule for detailed timing.
  • All regular papers are allotted 20 minutes for presentation and 5 minutes for questions and handover.
  • There is NO DEDICATED COMPUTER FOR PRESENTATIONS. If you will not have a computer or presentations please see Steve Chien and/or your session chair before your session. Ideally we will find one presenter per session and be able to use their computer for presentation. As such please have your presentation handy in standard pdf or ppt on a USB stick.
  • If you have audio requirements for your presentation please contact Steve Chien ASAP. It is likely but not yet confirmed that we will have audio (likely mini plug or HDMI).

Internet Access:

  • WiFi access: SSL has guest network: SSL-AIR-GUEST

Lunches:

Breaks:

  • Light refreshments will be provided at the Morning Coffee Break and afternoon cookie break, courtesy of Planet.

Planet Tour:

  • Participants will be responsible for their own transit to and from the Planet visit which will be at the Planet facility: Planet Labs 645 Harrison St Floor 4, San Francisco, CA 94107. The visit will include an overview of Planet, and will include some show and tell of their spacecraft, operations, and imagery. The visit will include refreshments.
  • Directions follow below.
    • Method A: Uber or Lyft and use the address above. (easiest, should be ~ $35-40 USD)
    • Method B:
      • Get to the Berkeley BART stop by either walking; taking the H line bus to main campus and walking, or taking the 65 Bus.
      • Take the BART to Montgomery Stop in San Francisco.
      • Walk to Planet.
    • Method C: If the weather is good (which is likely)
      • Get to Jack London Square (likely via ride share) (also a potential place for lunch)
      • Take the Oakland Ferry to the SF Ferry Building https://sanfranciscobayferry.com/route/oakland/sffb perhaps the 240p ferry.
      • Either walk or ride share to Planet (it is about 1.1 mi or 1.8 km )
    • Hybrids of the above are possible as you will be wanting to catch lunch and then head over, sharing a ride with your lunch colleagues should make the cost of (B) above more reasonable.
    • After the tour we suggest getting dinner near Planet after the reception (it is near the waterfront) and there is the potential to take the Ferry back to Oakland for a nice evening view!
