How to
The MRT is the fastest and most reliable way to navigate the city. Here is a guide to ensure a smooth journey for our international guests:
EasyCard (悠遊卡) or iPASS (一卡通): This is the most recommended method. You can use these IC cards for the MRT, buses, and YouBike. Purchase them at any MRT station info counter or convenience store.
Single Journey Token: If you are only taking a one-off trip, you can buy a purple coin-shaped token from the blue vending machines at any station.
Contactless Payment: Most gates now accept VISA, MasterCard, and JCB (including Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay). Look for the specific sensor with the credit card logos.
Color-Coded System: Each line is identified by a color (e.g., Red Line, Blue Line, Brown Line). Follow the colored floor markings and overhead signs to find your platform.
English Signage: All stations have clear English signs, and arrivals are announced in English, Mandarin, Taiwanese, and Hakka.
Platform Safety: Please stand behind the yellow line while waiting for the train. When the train arrives, let passengers alight (get off) first before boarding.
🚫 No Eating or Drinking: This is strictly enforced. Do not consume food, water, or gum once you pass the yellow "No-entry" line before the gates. Fines can be quite high.
♿ Priority Seats: Dark blue seats are reserved for those in need. Please yield these seats to the elderly, pregnant women, or people with disabilities.
🎧 Use Headphones: To maintain a quiet environment, please use headphones when listening to music or watching videos.
MRT to Bus: If you use an IC card (EasyCard/iPASS), you will receive a transfer discount when switching between the MRT and a bus within one hour.
Last Train: Most lines operate until midnight (00:00). If you have a late-night flight or event, please check the specific last train time for your station on the official app.
The public bus system is an affordable and extensive way to reach the conference venue. Here is everything you need to know:
IC Cards (Recommended): Use an EasyCard (悠遊卡) or iPASS (一卡通). You can purchase and top them up at any 7-Eleven, FamilyMart, or MRT station.
Contactless Credit Card: Most buses in Taipei now accept VISA, MasterCard, and JCB (Apple Pay/Google Pay also work).
Cash: If paying by cash, the standard fare is NT$15 per segment. Please note that no change is given, so you must have the exact amount ready.
Signal the Bus: When you see your bus approaching, please wave your hand clearly to signal the driver to stop.
Tap On, Tap Off: For all buses in Taipei and New Taipei City, you must tap your card/phone on the sensor BOTH when you board AND when you alight (get off).
Requesting a Stop: When your stop is approaching, press the red "Stop" button located on the pillars or ceiling to notify the driver.
Google Maps: Simply enter our venue's name, and Google Maps will provide real-time bus numbers and arrival times.
Bus Apps: For more precise real-time information, we recommend downloading the "Bus+" or "Taipei Bus" app.
Priority Seats: The dark blue seats are reserved for the elderly, pregnant women, and people with disabilities. Please yield these seats to those in need.
No Eating or Drinking: Similar to the MRT, eating and drinking are generally prohibited on the bus to maintain cleanliness.
💡 Travel Tip: If you transfer between the MRT (Metro) and a Bus using the same IC card within one hour, you will receive a transfer discount on your second trip!

Yellow taxis are everywhere in Taipei and are generally very safe and regulated.
How to Catch One: * Street Hailing: You can wave one down on almost any street. Look for the red LED light on the dashboard—if it's on, the taxi is available.
Taxi Stands: Found at all major MRT stations, hotels, and tourist attractions.
Convenience Stores: You can actually call a taxi using the "Kiosk" machines (like iBon at 7-Eleven), though the interface is usually in Chinese.
Payment: * Cash is King: Always carry cash (TWD).
Digital Options: Many newer taxis accept EasyCard, Line Pay, or Credit Cards, but it is best to ask "Credit card?" before you get in.
The Language Gap: Most taxi drivers speak limited English. Always have your destination address written in Chinese or shown on Google Maps.
Uber operates legally in Taiwan and is integrated with local rental car companies and taxis.
App Usage: You can use the same Uber app you use in your home country. No need to download a new one.
Why use it?
No Language Barrier: You enter the destination in the app, so there is no need to explain it to the driver.
Price Transparency: You see the fare upfront before you book.
Automatic Payment: Charges your registered credit card directly.
Pickup Points: At airports or major stations, follow the specific signs for "Ride-Hailing" or "Uber" pickup points, as they may be different from the standard taxi line.
The EasyCard is a "tap-and-go" IC card used for nearly all public transportation and micro-payments in Taiwan.
Public Transport:
Metro (MRT): All lines in Taipei, Kaohsiung, and Taichung.
Buses: All city buses and most intercity coaches.
Trains (TRA): Standard trains throughout Taiwan (excluding certain express trains).
YouBike: Public bike sharing (requires a one-time registration).
Taxis: Many taxis in Taipei now accept EasyCard (look for the sticker on the window).
Convenience Stores & Shops:
You can pay for items at 7-Eleven, FamilyMart, Hi-Life, and OK Mart.
It is also accepted at many supermarkets (PX Mart), drugstores (Watsons/Cosmed), and even some Starbucks or McDonald's locations.
Attractions & Vending Machines:
Use it to enter the Taipei Zoo, National Palace Museum, and many public parking lots.
Most drink vending machines in MRT stations and airports accept it.
