About Us
The Izaak Walton League is one of the oldest conservation organizations in the United States, formed in 1922 and named to honor Izaak Walton, the 17th Century author of The Compleat Angler, one of the oldest and most famous books on fishing. The League has aggressively defended America's wildlife, changing public policy and supporting legislation to preserve and protect our wildlife, natural resources, wetlands and public land. The Harford County Chapter of the Izaak Walton League was established in 1950 and is committed to defending our soil, air, woods, water and wildlife. Get to know us!
We own and are responsible for the 350-acre Bosley Conservancy of wetlands and woodlands. In addition to routine cleanup of the land, members have installed and maintained nesting boxes for the native Wood Duck. The group has strong partnerships with Harford County Parks and Recreation, as well as mentor programs with local school and scout groups.
Members in good standing are allowed to hunt in accordance with chapter rules on the Bosley Conservancy property.
Hunter safety courses (mandatory for obtaining a hunting license) are provided by the Harford Chapter and plans for an Archery training course are currently underway.
All are invited to join us at our monthly meetings held the second Wednesday of each month (no meetings in July or August).
The League takes a common-sense approach toward protecting our country's natural heritage and improving outdoor recreation opportunities for all Americans. We invite you to learn about our work and to join us in supporting important conservation initiatives in your community.
