Title : Cryptocurrency 101- Welcome to smart coin world!

by Hyoungshick Kim

Sungkyunkwan University

Abstract: A cryptocurrency is a digital or virtual currency that uses cryptography for security. The technology is being used for many different financial purposes from government issued digital currency to supply chains to identity management. Cryptocurrencies are so appealing to users because they are decentralized and available to anyone. In addition, they use advanced cryptographic algorithms to help ensure security and the anonymity of users. Thus, they are cryptographically secure and can support proofs of assertions such as “Person X has transferred $Y from account A to account B” without revealing the identity of person X, the amount of $Y, account A or account B. All of this sounds much like magic. In this talk, I will delve into the technology of cryptocurrencies from the perspective of a non-cryptographer and attempt to discuss security challenges for cryptocurrency.
