Welcome!
I am a political scientist and a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Institute for Social Research at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (IIS-UNAM). I earned my Ph.D. in Political Science from the Center for Research and Teaching in Economics (CIDE).
I am a Member of the Mexican National System of Researchers (SNII).
My research primarily focuses on comparative politics, urban politics, and political economy, particularly within Global South cities. My current book project explores urban bus service provision disparities across these cities, analyzing the evolution of affordability and quality over the past century. In parallel, I am expanding my agenda through a complementary line of inquiry that examines the political and institutional factors shaping public transport reforms aimed at sustainability and climate change mitigation, including initiatives such as decarbonization policies and the electrification of bus fleets. Additionally, I am engaged in research on migration and educational policies.
My research was honored with the REPAL Best Graduate Student Paper Award in 2024 and the Afonso Carlos Marques dos Santos Award in 2022.
I have taught and conducted research across several countries, effectively working in Portuguese, Spanish, and English. I was a visiting researcher at the Escuela de Política y Gobierno, Universidad Nacional de San Martín (Argentina), and at the Centro de Estudos da Metrópole at the University of São Paulo (Brazil). From 2021 to 2024, I contributed as an Assistant Editor to the academic journal Política y gobierno. In addition to my academic work, I have gained experience as an external consultant for government organizations, including providing research assistance and contributing to a report for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
My research has been financially supported by the Consejo Nacional de Humanidades, Ciencias y Tecnologías (Conahcyt), the Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES), the Centro Brasileiro de Análise e Planejamento (Cebrap), the Ministerio de Educación de la República Argentina (Beca de Integración Regional para Ciudadanos de Latinoamérica y el Caribe), and the Center for Research and Teaching in Economics (CIDE).
Originally from Brazil, I began my academic journey at the University of São Paulo, where I obtained both a Master's degree in Political Science and a Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences from the Faculty of Philosophy, Languages and Literature, and Human Sciences (FFLCH).
