From 20 to 24 April 2026, the Social Work programme at Hogeschool PXL in Hasselt will host the International University Week (IUW). This event, organized within the framework of the European SocNet98 network, brings together students and lecturers from various European countries to explore pressing social challenges, share experiences, and discover innovative approaches in the field of social work.
Throughout the week, participants will take part in lectures, workshops, field visits, and interactive discussions. Alongside the academic programme, there will be plenty of opportunities to connect and exchange ideas through a diverse cultural and social programme.
The IUW at Hogeschool PXL is organized as a Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) funded by Erasmus+. We warmly welcome students and staff from our SocNet98 partners.
Social workers are human rights professionals who strive for a sustainable, just society in which no one is left behind.
Their connection with people's everyday lives puts them, as human rights professionals, in a unique position. They build strong relationships with the people they support, helping them connect with society. A broad and critical perspective is required for this role. Social workers encounter injustices in people's lives on a daily basis. Engaging with individuals can provide valuable insights into societal structures and issues.
This week, we will explore the important role of social workers in addressing these issues. In Flanders we use the term ‘Politicising work’ to address problems transcending the individuals. This practice can take many forms.
Together with you we hope to explore this topic and ways of realizing a more just society for all.
