Presenter Information

We are excited to welcome presenters to the 2026 Inter-University Workshop (IUW): Shaping a Human-Centered Future!

IUW 2026 provides an opportunity for student researchers to strengthen their presentation skills, share their latest work and ideas, receive feedback from peers, and connect with students, faculty, and industry members across human factors, ergonomics, design, and related fields.

Please review this page carefully for information about presentation requirements, final materials submission, accessibility, and poster printing.

Final Presenter Materials Submission

Complete the IUW 2026 Final Materials Form once for each accepted abstract. The form is used to submit your final:

• Presentation title

• Abstract

• Presenter information

• Presenter photograph

• Presentation materials, as applicable to your assigned format

Please ensure that all information is final and accurately reflects how you would like your presentation and presenter information to appear in IUW materials.

After submitting the form, you will receive an “I’m Presenting at IUW 2026” media graphic by email to share with your network.

Registration

Submitting the Final Materials Form does not register you for IUW 2026. Registration must be completed separately through Eventbrite.

Presentation Formats

Presenters should prepare materials according to the format assigned to their accepted abstract.

Authors may have indicated a preferred format during abstract submission, but abstracts may be accepted for a different format than requested. Abstracts submitted as Poster Presentations will be considered for poster presentation only.

Oral Presentations 

• 7 minutes total: 5-minute presentation and 2-minute questions and discussion

Oral presentations are intended for well-developed research projects or completed studies. Focus on the most important elements of your work and clearly communicate:

• Research problem

• Approach or methodology

• Key findings

• Implications

Please rehearse in advance and keep your presentation within the 5-minute presentation limit.

Pitch Sessions 

Pitch sessions are 2 minutes total and are designed for:

• • Early-stage research ideas

  • Ongoing work

  • Exploratory concepts

Focus on communicating:

• Motivation

• Core idea

• Research question

• Potential impact

Full results are not required. The goal is to give attendees a clear understanding of the problem, idea, and potential contribution within a short period of time.

Please rehearse in advance and stay within the 2-minute limit.

Poster Presentations

Poster presentations support in-depth, informal discussion and are appropriate for both completed research and work in progress.

Posters should clearly communicate:

• Context

• Approach

• Key insights, preliminary findings, or expected contributions

Prioritize accessibility and readability. Use a clear sans-serif font such as Helvetica, Arial, or a similar typeface; maintain strong colour contrast; and ensure that text, figures, and graphics can be read from a reasonable viewing distance.

Poster dimensions: 48" × 36"

Please note IUW is not able to coordinate poster printing; you are responsible for bringing a printed poster to the workshop. Additional poster specifications are provided in the IUW 2026 Final Materials Form.

Presentation Materials and Accessibility

Oral and Pitch Presentations

There is one IUW 2026 presentation template, which should be used for both oral presentations and pitch sessions.

Please follow these accessibility and readability guidelines:

• Use a clear, accessible sans-serif font such as Helvetica, Arial, or a similar typeface.

• Use a minimum font size of 40 points for presentation text.

• Keep text concise and avoid overcrowding slides.

• Use strong contrast between text and the background.

• Ensure figures, charts, and images are clear and legible from a distance.

Submit your final slides through the IUW 2026 Final Materials Form by September 21, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. EDT.

Posters

Poster presenters should prepare a 48" × 36" poster and follow the accessibility and readability guidance above.

IUW is not able to coordinate poster printing. Poster presenters are responsible for arranging printing in advance and bringing their printed poster to the workshop.

Before IUW

Before the workshop, make sure you:

• • • Confirm your assigned presentation format.

    • Review the presentation and accessibility requirements.

    • If giving an oral presentation or pitch, use the IUW 2026 presentation template and ensure presentation text is at least 40 points.

    • If presenting a poster, prepare a 48" × 36" poster and arrange printing in advance.

    • Complete the IUW 2026 Final Materials Form once for each accepted abstract by September 21, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. EDT.

    • Submit your final title, abstract, presenter information, photograph, and applicable presentation materials through the form.

    • Look for your “I’m Presenting at IUW 2026” media graphic by email after completing the form.

    • Register separately for IUW 2026 through Eventbrite.

    • Rehearse your oral presentation or pitch to ensure that you stay within the allotted time.
