CALL FOR ART: 2026 ART EXHIBIT -- EMERITI HOUSE AND IURA
This is your invitation to submit artwork for the 24th annual art exhibit at Emeriti House: the deadline is 11:00 am on Monday, April 20. Opening reception: Friday, April 24, 4:00-6:00 pm: bring friends!
Eligibility for submission: The annual exhibit is a partnership between Emeriti House and the IU Retirees Association. Emeriti House retirees (faculty and librarians), IURA members, and the spouses or partners of all of these, are eligible to submit artwork. Submission of artwork implies acceptance of the Schedule and Guidelines below. Artwork may have been completed at any time (need not be new): lifelong hobby? new interest since retirement? If you made it, it counts!
Artwork: All media of visual art are welcome: painting, photography, printmaking, drawings, collage/montage, sculpture, ceramics, woodwork, glass, plastic, fiber/fabric arts, mobiles, digital photo frames (silent), mixed-media/hybrid. We welcome an interesting range of materials, subjects, and size.
Schedule:
* Submit work in person at Emeriti House (parking-garage vouchers available; there are a few parking spots behind the House): a) on Monday, April 20, 8:30-11:00 am. OR b) Thursdays and Fridays, 8:30 am-12 pm. and 1:00-5:00 pm, beginning April 7. We have a hand truck: on April 20, call 812-272-3393 if you’ll need help.
* Installation will begin at 11:00 am on April 20.
* Opening reception: Friday, 24 April, 4:00-6:00 pm. Everyone is welcome – bring guests! Free!
* Works remain on view, in the main-floor rooms of Emeriti House, for a year, until the next exhibit goes up; a loose pick-up schedule will be announced, but works must be claimed within a year of de-installing (thus, by April 2028 for the 2026-27 exhibit); unclaimed artworks will be donated appropriately. (Damage to artworks has never happened, but if it does, you will be notified ASAP).
Guidelines for submitting art:
* Each person may submit up to 3 works (this is new). Depending on number and sizes, the committee may (this is rare) need to select to fit the space, but each person will have at least 1 work in the exhibit. Please number works 1-2-3 in order of your preference.
*Art should be submitted ready to be exhibited: Attach hanging hardware to the back of work to be wall-hung (we provide the down-wires). Include plate holders as needed for ceramics, glassware, woodwork; freestanding 3-D work should be stable on its own or be provided with an appropriate base. Flat works without hanging hardware will be rejected: we can’t safely display them on tables.
* The Art Info Form (https://go.iu.edu/8x2k, also on the IURA website) must be submitted with each work; we welcome early submission of the paperwork, or alert us to anything unusually large or complex, to help us plan ahead. Forms will also be available on-site. This form is the basis of the printed label. If a work is for sale, you set the price, no commission is taken, and sold items remain on view for the year; sellers’ contributions to IU Foundation Emeriti House or IURA accounts are welcome.
*Attach a “yellow stickie” with your last name, phone/email, and the work’s title on the front of each work – this helps us match labels to works after works are installed, and gets taped to the back for later identification. We’ll have stickie pads available.
*Questions? Contact the 2026 Art Exhibit Committee Chair, Beau Vallance, evallanc@gmail.com , (Subject line "2026 EH/IURA ART EXHIBIT") or text 812-340-0028 (she can call you back but could miss calls from unknown numbers). Other committee members are Wendy Bernstein, Nan Brewer, Elaine Emmi, Phil Emmi, BJ Irvine, Charlie Matson, and Larry Thibos.

December 31, 2025, is the deadliine for updating your name@indiana.edu email address to name@iu.edu with people or automated lists from which you expect email that you want to continue to receive. Here's a page with explicit instructions for accounts at Anthem, and a few others. UITS strongly recommends that accounts not related to IU be changed to use personal email accounts, such as GMail. IF YOIU HAVEN'T ALREADY DONE THIS, WORK ON IT NOW!
