  • "Only two? Madwomen: Poems of Gabriela Mistral, translated by Randall Couch. Gorgeous explorations of the complexities of womanhood. It is, of course, better in Spanish, but the translations by Couch are quite good at capturing both the nuances of Mistral's thinking and the music of her poetry."

• The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater 

  •  "The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater (I know this is cheating, because it's technically 4 books). Stiefvater is one of my favorite living authors. The complexity of her characters in this series, her deft use of language, her soft touch with the fabulist genre, and her ability to pack complex ideas into what is also an incredible escapist romp make this some of the best fiction I've read in a long time. Also: queer romance is always a good addition to a story."
