I have done my bachelor's from BBSBEC - Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab, in 2016. I joined IITK in the direct Ph.D. program. In my Ph.D. work, I am trying to model and simulate the "Walking droplets" or "Walkers", and correlate the findings to quantum mechanical systems. This hydrodynamic system not only resembles the quantum mechanical system but also has a wide range of applications, such as complex orbital motions in astronomy and diffraction in optics. The numerical simulations include the solution of Navier-Stokes equations for two-phase flows and coupled level set/volume-of-fluid (CLSVOF) method to represent the millimetric-sized drop.

Garima Varshney

I am Garima Varshney working as a Ph.D. Research scholar at the Flow Physical Laboratory, where I am trying to explore the stability criteria of different viscous fluids in the application of oil and gas extraction, CO2 sequestration, aquifer contamination, etc. I'm particularly interested in learning about the rheology of fluids because of their industrial importance. I previously also got the opportunity to research the exciting topic of boiling optimization of Non-Newtonian fluids on microstructure surfaces as an M. Tech student at IIT Bhubaneswar. Apart from this, I am also interested in simulation in fluid and Heat Transfer.

Siddhant Mishra

I completed my B. Tech from PDPM IIITDM Jabalpur in Mechanical Engineering and joined IIT Kanpur as a direct Ph.D. student in August 2021. In my doctoral work, my goal is to study the turbulence and physics behind various geophysical and geodynamic processes such as cloud formation, earth mantle convection, etc. I perform high-fidelity DNS and LES simulations, in a conventional rotating Rayleigh-Bénard convection setup, using our cluster "IRON" and the HPC facilities at IITK. Besides these I like reading about the use of A.I. in fluid mechanics, MHD flows in tokamak and astrophysical bodies, etc.

Shahrukh Vamiq

I have completed my M. Tech in Thermal Engineering from Aligarh Muslim University. My master’s thesis was titled “Numerical analysis for the flow past a square cylinder for aiding and opposing buoyancy”. The thesis work was mainly focused on the role of buoyancy and inertia forces on flow structures and global parameters. Currently, I am pursuing Ph.D. in Fluid and Thermal Engineering, at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Kanpur. My work involves the development and implementation of a generalized curvilinear solver for Rayleigh-Benard convection in a rotating spherical shell. My research interest includes computational fluid dynamics, convective heat transfer, and turbulent flows.
