In PA you will need to submit certain forms, in person, to your home school district administration office. These forms include: Homeschooling Affidavit, Educational Objectives, Special Education Sign-Off (if applicable), Immunization/ Health/ Dental/ Vision checkups (or exemption waiver letter)

The BEST thing you can do, is completely familiarize yourself with the PA Homeschooling LAW. There have been recent changes to the law, that will take effect in 2023. This is the first time we have major changes to the law for homeschooling since 2014. Information breakdown of the PA Homeschooling LAW can be found here.

To homeschool* your child, of compulsory age, in Pa (this includes foster children)- you will need to submit the following information:

• Notarized Affidavit signed and dated with all required information. See my SAMPLE Form. Feel free to use it with your information!

• Educational Objectives- suitable for your child's age group.

• Special Education Form- This is only necessary if your child has an existing IEP or known special need (this DOES include gifted.) Please read and familiarize yourself with the law to decide if this form is needed for your scenario. (I also have a SAMPLE Non-Applicable Sp.Ed. • Immunization/Medical Requirements- Each of the 501 school districts in PA do this differently. You will need to know what is being requested by your district, and what the LAW says you need to submit. There are waivers for special reasons, as always. And if you ever run into trouble the PDE liaison is an invaluable resource.

  • To submit IMMUNIZATIONS- print from your provider's portal or request them from the office. / SAMPLE IMMUNIZATION WAIVER LETTER

  • Dental Form

*Private Tutoring, Homebound, Cyber Charter, Religious School have different requirements than traditional homeschooling. Homeschooling consists of - teaching your child or child of which you have legal guardianship, in your home. The specific curriculum and teaching style is up to you based on your student. However, the state minimum time and subject requirements must be met and recorded in your annual portfolio. We will discuss this more in FAQ.

TO BEGIN A NEW YEAR OF HOMESCHOOLING-

Every year after your initial year, you will need to submit your forms BY AUGUST 1st. (Homeschool school year runs from July 1- June 30)

• Special Education Form (IF APPLICABLE)

• Immunization, Medical, Dental Information

DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR-

• Keep Hours/ Days Log. (180 Days -OR- 900 hours for Elem. and 990 for Secondary)

• Keep Reading Log

• Teach all Required Subjects

• Save some samples for evaluation

• Grades 3, 5, 8 PA requires Standardized Testing. You can choose from an approved list which test you would like your student to take. (I can discuss this with you as well, to help you make the best choice for you). Results from Standardized testing go in Portfolio for Evaluation. (Results do not need to be submitted to the school district- per the law- October, 2014, Act 169.)

TO END YOUR YEAR-

• Have end of year evaluation-

  • This is where I come in!! I offer in-home, at the library or coffee shop, or virtual evaluations. I am able to evaluate Elementary and Secondary students. Fill out my form if you are looking to schedule your evaluation for this year now!

• Submit your end of year evaluation results to the school district BY JUNE 30th. (Start new school year July 1!)
