Why Proctortrack is a huge misstep infringing on the rights and privacy of ISU's students.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
As per the Provost's office, the use of Proctortrack in classrooms requires the INFORMED CONSENT of students. If students do not consent to using Proctortrack, it is the responsibility of the professor to work with the student on alternative forms of test proctoring. Students will not receive a 0 on the assessment for not agreeing to use Proctortrack. For a more detailed description please view the official documentation here
What is Proctortrack and why should I be worried about it?
Proctortrack is a digital exam proctoring software recently purchased by ISU to be the standard program for digitally proctoring exams and quizzes during this time of remote learning due to COVID-19.
Proctortrack is also an incredibly invasive program that breaches student's rights to privacy, presents data security risks for everyone, threatens student's success in college, and systematically disadvantages neuro-divergent students. The software collects and stores an egregious amount of data about students and creates AI generated data-profiles with it. On top of this, Proctortrack acts like a piece of spyware on the student's computer's by forcing high-level device access that could give the software access to anything stored on your personal computer.
What this means is, if you are an ISU student, and you don't join us in doing something about this, soon you will be forced to install what is essentially school sponsored malware that can collect enough data on you to make Facebook and Google jealous. (Plus all this can be changed at any time without you or ISU's consent).

What specifically does Proctortrack do?
Proctortrack can, among other things, store this information:
Name
Photograph of an identity document, such as a driver’s license
Photograph of you
Telephone Number – (used for tech support only)
Name of the Test Sponsor(s) (i.e., the educational institution(s)) at which you are enrolled and course test information
E-mail address
Test submissions
Screen-captures
Audio and video recordings of you taking tests
Room scan- scan of the test-room environment
Biometric data: Face and optionally, knuckle voice scan, which may be considered as biometric information under certain regulatory regimes
Hardware and software details (background process list, system configuration information, etc)
All of this information will be stored for up to one year after it is collected. Since Proctortrack is collecting this data, not ISU, this means that if they want to share your data on social media like Proctorio did, or give your data up to someone who purchases their company, they can and will.
