The Raffaele Matta Trio was born from the idea of exploiting and manipulating some elements of the rhythmic system of Indian classical music. Raffaele Matta never wanted to play Carnatic or Hindustani music, his idea has always been to introduce elements of that sound world into his compositions and make them coexist with contemporary sounds and approaches. The meeting with Andrea Parodo and Nicola Vacca was more than decisive in all of this, after the first concerts many elements consolidated and gave life to a sound that none of the three would have ever expected.

Raffaele Matta's concerts together with Andrea Parodo and Nicola Vacca in many Indian cities have certainly changed the structure of this trio, favoring constant evolution and continuous stylistic and sonic research on a territory now common to all three.

The Raffaele Matta Trio, has performed in several international festivals like the Chiang Mai international Jazz Festival, Isole che Parlano and others. On 27 October 2024 the band was invited to participate in the very prestigious Jazz Jamboree Festival in Warsaw, where in front of an audience of 800 people at the Stodola Club, a historic concert hall in the Polish capital.

Il Raffaele Matta Trio nasce dall'idea di sfruttare e manipolare alcuni elementi del sistema ritmico della musica classica indiana. Raffaele Matta non ha mai voluto suonare musica carnatica o indostana, la sua idea è sempre stata quella di introdurre elementi di quel mondo sonoro nelle sue composizioni e farli convivere con suoni e approcci contemporanei. L'incontro con Andrea Parodo e Nicola Vacca è stato più che decisivo in tutto questo, dopo i primi concerti molti elementi si sono consolidati e hanno dato vita ad un sound che nessuno dei tre si sarebbe mai aspettato.

I concerti di Raffaele Matta insieme ad Andrea Parodo e Nicola Vacca in molte città indiane hanno sicuramente cambiato la struttura di questo trio, favorendo una costante evoluzione e una continua ricerca stilistica e sonora su un territorio ormai comune a tutti e tre.

Il Trio si é esibito in diversi festival di livello internazionale come il Chiang Mai Jazz Festival, Isole che Parlano e altri. Il 27 ottobre del 2024 la fromazione viene invitata a partecipare al prestigiosissimo Jazz Jamboree Festival di Varsavia, dove davanti ad una platea di 800 persone del Stodola Club, storica sala concerti della capitale polacca.

On April 5th 2024 the new album "Bandra West" was released by the Isulafactory label in co-production with Lizard Records. In addition to the digital version, a CD has also been released. Eight tracks conceived between Sardinia and India, in which Raffaele Matta lived for several years to deepen his study of Indian classical music.

Bandra West is a neighborhood of Mumbai, a city that after several concerts in the subcontinent is now familiar to all the members of the trio. This album collects and represents sounds and images of some of the places where we have brought our music, a tribute to Asia but above all to India. Eight songs with clear emotional and geographical references, sometimes directional and sometimes cyclical, circular, like mantras that are repeated each time with subtle variations. It is thus possible to perceive, within the compositions, rock, electronic and Middle Eastern characterizations, with large and meditative sound spaces, all with a clear reference to some typical sounds and experiments of contemporary European music and Indian classical music. Another peculiarity of the project is the rhythmic approach, based on a numerical system to build patterns, in which the drums are free to improvise within a rhythmic progression, as a melodic instrument would do on a harmonic progression.

The Raffaele Matta Trio is made up of Raffaele Matta, guitarist and composer of all the songs, Andrea Parodo on electric bass and Nicola Vacca on drums.

Il 5 aprile 2024 è uscito il nuovo album "Bandra West" per l'etichetta Isulafactory in coproduzione con Lizard Records. Oltre alla versione digitale, è uscito anche un CD su tutte le piattaforme di streaming. Otto brani concepiti tra Sardegna e India, in cui Raffaele Matta ha vissuto per diversi anni per approfondire lo studio della musica classica indiana.

Bandra West è un quartiere di Mumbai, città che dopo diversi concerti nel subcontinente è ormai familiare a tutti i componenti del trio. Questo album raccoglie e rappresenta suoni e immagini di alcuni dei luoghi in cui abbiamo portato la nostra musica, un omaggio all'Asia ma soprattutto all'India. Otto brani dai chiari riferimenti emotivi e geografici, a volte direzionali e a volte ciclici, circolari, come mantra che si ripetono ogni volta con sottili variazioni. È così possibile percepire, all'interno delle composizioni, caratterizzazioni rock, elettroniche e mediorientali, con spazi sonori ampi e meditativi, il tutto con un chiaro riferimento ad alcune sonorità e sperimentazioni tipiche della musica europea contemporanea e della musica classica indiana. Altra peculiarità del progetto è l'approccio ritmico, basato su un sistema numerico per costruire pattern, in cui la batteria è libera di improvvisare all'interno di una progressione ritmica, come farebbe uno strumento melodico su una progressione armonica.

Il Raffaele Matta Trio è composto da Raffaele Matta, chitarrista e compositore di tutti i brani, Andrea Parodo al basso elettrico e Nicola Vacca alla batteria.
