I'm Jen Ungerleider, and I love advising and teaching. I've been doing both for over 15 years, and I've been at NKU since 2019. Before I came to NKU, I taught anthropology and biology and worked in study abroad. I earned a bachelor’s degree in zoology from Miami University and a Ph.D. in biological anthropology from Washington University in St. Louis. For my doctoral research, I studied behavior and ecology of spider monkeys in Costa Rica.
I know that I would not be here today without the care and efforts of my teachers, professors, and mentors, and I want to help NKU students succeed in the ways I was helped.
I'm from Beavercreek, Ohio, but spent most of my adult life outside of Ohio. I moved back in 2018 and am happy to be close to family and to reconnect with old friends.
I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, reading, hiking, watching birds, watching movies, and eating good food. One of my main hobbies is teaching dance aerobics.
I have a dog and two cats, and if you happen to have a Zoom meeting with me when I'm working remotely, you're likely to meet one of my cats. They think they're consultant academic advisors, but I think they just like attention.
