Dr. Kiril Kogan

(1973-2021)

Dr. Kiril Kogan, who was a member of Israeli Networking community, passed away this year.

Kiril was a wonderful father of two children and a loving son to his parents. He was a prominent member of the department of computer science in Ariel University and an excellent and well respected researcher in his field.

Kiril had spent over a decade (2000-2012) at Cisco Systems as a Technical Leader. During his time working at Cisco, he also completed his studies, earning a Ph.D. degree at Ben-Gurion University, Israel (2008-2012). After that, Kiril spent one year as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Waterloo, Canada. Later, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Purdue University, USA. Between 2015-2019, Dr. Kirill Kogan worked at IMDEA, acting as a Research Assistant Professor; in 2019, he became a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Computer Science at Ariel University, Israel.

Kirill devoted his research to the design, analysis, and implementation of networked systems, broadly defined. Kirill published in top dissemination venues such as the international conferences ACM SIGCOMM, IEEE INFOCOM, and ACM PODC. He also authored papers in top-tier journals within his area of expertise, such as IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking, IEEE Transactions on Communications, or Distributed Computing.

Kiril will be missed as a researcher and more so as a colleague and friend. Kiril’s memory will remain in our hearts.
