I am a Postdoctoral researcher at the Thünen-Institute in Braunschweig. I am currently involved in a large project that studies the effect of environmental measures on the economy of rural areas in Germany. In addition, I focus on the intersection of managerial regulations and women in leadership positions.
My PhD dissertation concentrates on the specific spending patterns of local politicians around elections. Its main focus is on gender differences in public spending prior to an election and how exogenous changes in the institutional framework trigger asymmetric spending responses between male and female politicians. My research also addresses the complexity of the budget by differentiating between different budget stages and regulation affecting specific budget items. Methodologically, I use different empirical approaches, for instance, quasi-experimental causal methods and the design and analysis of survey data.
