Ismat Jarin

My name is Ismat Jarin. I am a Ph.D. Candidate in Computer Science at the University of California, Irvine. I obtained my MS degree in CS from UC Irvine and CIS from University of Michigan. Previously, I was a Graduate Research Assistant at Data Driven Security and Privacy Lab under Professor Birhanu Eshete . I have been working as a PhD student at UCI, under ProperAI ( Engineering+ Society Institute for AI), ProperData and Networking Group from fall 2022 under Professor Athina Markopoulou.
My research focus is Privacy, Security and Safety in Emerging Technologies, with particular emphasis on improving privacy and trust in ML/LLMs, AI Agents and XR by Privacy Risk analysis and designing Privacy-Preserving, Policy centered Machine Learning systems. I have published and presented my research at leading privacy and AI venues, including PETS, WiML at NeurIPS, ConPro at IEEE S&P, USEC at NDSS, and ACM CODASPY.
Beyond research, I am committed to mentorship, leadership, and outreach through programs such as UCI Next Generation Pathways, WiCyS Mentorship, Code to PhD, UCI Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP). In my personal life, I like to read novels, writing poems, cook and travel. I also have deep passion for self defense!
