Below are the devices that most students have found easiest to work with at school. These devices are recommended for students to bring to school because:
they are easy to connect to the school WiFi
other students and most teachers/staff are familiar with them
there is a large range of easy-to-use and free software/apps that can be accessed at school
they have an instantaneous start-up and can be ready to use immediately, a long battery life, and are easily portable.
All devices must have a cover to protect the screen and the back of the device.
1.1 iPAD Program
The iPad has become one of the indispensable tools in the ISM primary school. The 1:1 iPad program aims to integrate technology into teaching and learning so as to support the educational mission of our school. The use of the iPad in class carries responsibilities and behavioral expectations consistent with school rules and policies. The students in ISM primary school should use the iPads and the school network in a responsible, ethical, and legal manner at all times.
In 2012, we launched our 1:1 iPad Program. With classroom sets of iPads, we were able to pilot multiple education and technology initiatives. Following the successes we found with our pilot study, and after extensive implementation and research, ISM launched the 1:1 iPad program in September 2012. We will continue our 1:1 approach from grades 2 up to grade 5.
The iPad devices will be provided by the families. Please read carefully the iPad Use Agreement in order to be updated on all details.
Our teacher-training has been ongoing and we anticipate even more creative uses of the iPad in the classroom for this upcoming academic year. As always, we maintain that the iPad is a teaching/learning tool. We have had very positive responses from our students on the iPad use over the 5 years and we look forward to more ways it can enhance the positive learning experience for our students.
Parents of incoming new students (grades 2 to 5) have the option of selecting which model their child will use. We recommend the following iPad models from 2022-latest

1:1 Apple Macbook Program
As part of the BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) program, PYP Grade 6 all secondary school students are required to bring a personally-owned computing device to school for educational purposes. Thanks to the amazing recent upgrades to our network, we now have the ability to accommodate wireless access for every student on a device anywhere on campus, and we’re excited about how this will provide more opportunities for students to connect, collaborate, and create.
Students are invited to bring their own laptop devices. At present we have 100% Macbook-based users in the BYOD program as Apple Macbooks are chosen for the following factors which include but are not limited to ease of use, durability, susceptibility to being hit with viruses, sales support one gets when buying device (Apple Premium resellers in Lombardia region: Milan, Monza, Bergamo and Como provide 6 to 12% discount to students) and the ease of access to the school’s platforms.
We suggest families aim for a laptop with a high and fast processor, RAM (memory), and storage. Hard disk drive (HDD) storage is cheaper but solid-state drives (SSDs) are much faster.—(think good', 'better' and 'best’).
In terms of software and apps, most of them will be provided by Office 365, our school platform and others will be downloaded free. We will also use productivity apps that go with laptops when acquired.
We want to empower students to become independent and engaged global learners. Using their own devices, they will learn how to access high-quality instruction, develop and maintain a healthy online identity (including social networking), and reduce their environmental footprint (through the use of e-texts and less printing) in preparation for the challenges of secondary school and beyond.
