Phalaenopsis equestris

Amongst our Phalaenopsis species collection Phaenopsis equestris has a special place both for its cute little flowers and it long flowering season.

As you can see from the photos, plants produce long flower spikes and the flowers open a few at a time over several months.

Phalaenopsis equestris is native to the Philippines and Southern Taiwan where it is reported growing as an epiphyte in lowland forest near streams, a habitat shared with many of our Phalaenopsis species. To replicate the warm conditions of the plants native habitat we grow all our Phalaenopsis species in our living room in our modified Ikea display cases. We water plants every two to three days with rainwater and plant food (to a strength of 500 microsiemens conductivity)Â
