石積み学校とは
石積み学校は、石積み技術の継承と石積みの修復をしているグループです。
石積み学校は、農地の石積み技術を継承するために、2013年に設立されました。コンクリートを用いない空石積みの技術を有する人が少なくなり、石積みの風景を継承することが困難になってきていたためです。
以来、石積み学校では石積みの風景と、それを支える技術の継承を目的として活動しています。
そのために、崩れかけた石積みを実際に修復しながら積み方を学ぶワークショップを開催したり、石積みの価値と技術を伝えるための講演会や授業を受け持ったり、おせっかいとご縁に導かれながら様々な活動を行なっています。
空石積みの価値
中山間地の棚田や段畑の石積みは、モルタルやコンクリートを使わない空石積みという技術によってつくられています。しかし、コンクリートの技術が普及するにつれ、空石積みの技術は十分に検討されないまま次第に使われなくなりました。そして現在、空石積みの技術は途絶えかけています。
一方で、空石積みは環境負荷が低い工法として再評価されてきています。基本的に地元で採れた石を使い、崩れた石を再利用できるためです。また、合理的で災害に対してもしなやかに対応できる技術でもあります。中山間地にある石積みは規模が小さいため、人の手でこまめに修復することで大きな労力と資金をかけずに維持することができます。そして自分たちで積むという行為が文化の継承に寄与するとともに土地に対する責任や理解を高めます。さらに崩壊する際には一気に崩れることがなく、その兆候が分かりやすいと言う特徴があります。
石工さんの間では、「一ぐり、二石、三に積み」という言葉が伝わっていたそうです。
石積みにおいて一番大切なのは積み石の裏に詰めるぐり石、二番目が石の質、三番目が積み手の技術という意味です。つまり裏にしっかりとぐり石を入れ、すぐに風化するような石を使わなければ、積む技術が多少つたなくても構造物として十分に耐久性のある擁壁ができるということです。崩れている石積みを見るとグリ石が少ない場合がほとんどです。現在では様々な施工基準に空石積みは削除されてしまいました。しかしそれは決して空石積みの構造物が弱いからではなく、単に職人の腕に依らず均一に施工できることを求めた現代の一般的な建設業の理念に合致しないからです。
空石積みといっても多大な労力と技術を投入した高級なお城の石垣から農閑期に農家の方がその辺りにある石を使って数時間で置いただけのような庶民の石垣まで様々な種類があります。石積みはその時に石積みをしようと思った人や環境の状況によって投入する労力や強度を容易に変えることができる多様な技術であったはずです。現在では石積みをしていたお年寄りが周りにほとんどいなくなったこともあり、身近な生活技術であるはずの石積みの存在が触ることのできない遠い存在になってしまいました。このような時代において、多くの人が扱える空石積みの技術を普及する重要性はますます高まっていると言えます。

Since then, We are active with the aim of inheriting the scenery of dry stone walls and the techniques that support it.
To that end, we hold a workshop to learn how to build while actually repairing the crushed stone walls, take charge of lectures and classes to disseminate the value of dry stone walls and techniques, and are involved in a variety of activities We are doing.
The value of dry stone walls
Most dry stone walls made in terraces in the middle mountainous area are without using mortar and concrete. However, as the technology of concrete spreads, the technique of dry stone walling has gradually ceased to be used without sufficient consideration. And now, few people have the technique.
On the other hand, from the background that sustainable development is seriously shared as an important value, dry stone walls with a small environmental burden is drawing attention in Europe.
Also, since the scale of the dry stone walls located in the mountainous area is small, it is most reasonable to maintain and manage it with human hands in order to repackage the collapsed part. And the act of loading by themselves will inherit culture, enhance responsibility and understanding of land, contribute to disaster prevention.
