Comparative Neuromuscular Biomechanics

A Technical Group of the International Society of Biomechanics
The Comparative Neuromuscular Biomechanics (CNB) Technical Group provides an international forum dedicated to comparative neuromuscular biomechanics and provides a space for comparative- and human-focused researchers to mingle.
We feel strongly that an exchange between comparative and human research fields will accelerate discovery, both of biomechanical principles as well as novel health and engineering applications. At the 2017 American Society of Biomechanics (ASB) meeting in Boulder, CO, we organized the first Joint Symposium between the ASB and the Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology (SICB). The purpose of the ASB-SICB Symposium was to stimulate dialogue between the societies and between human-focused and comparative biomechanists.
In 2018, we established the CNB Seed Group with the intent to further enhance dialogue across our fields. In August 2019, the CNB Seed Group received Working Group status from the International Society of Biomechanics (ISB), and in 2023, we received full Technical Group Status. The CNB Group organizes symposia in conjunction with ISB biennial congress – our first symposium was held at the ISB / ASB 2019 meeting. These meetings aim to bring together comparative- and human-focused biomechanists from around the world to communicate their work and advance the understanding and application of comparative neuromuscular biomechanics.
