What is Kahoot~ According to the Kahoot website, the application is a "global learning and engagement platform company that wants to empower everyone, including children, students, and employees, to unlock their full learning potential." Since the beginning of 2024, Kahoot has been owned by the company Goldman Sachs Asset Management, General Atlantic, KIRKBI, and the Kahoot team; the company employs over 600 people worldwide to make the platform as universal as possible. Kahoot is an online game-based platform that incorporates multiple-choice questions into learning.
Strengths~ The Kahoot platform offers free games to play for all users. There are various settings that accommodate users, whether it be at home, school, or work, and there is even a community collaboration tool. Teachers and parents are able to generate a content repost after the Kahoot has been taken to see the progress that students have made and what students need to review again. Through multiple-choice questions, students can increase their process of elimination skills, and correct answers can be explained after each question.
Weaknesses~ One of the biggest issues with Kahoot is that there can be lagging/glitching errors in the games, especially as more people join in on a game. Additionally, there is a free version of Kahoot, but it is drastically limited compared to the paid version. Also, teachers, and especially parents, have mentioned experiencing difficulties while trying to navigate the platform and see the content report.
Opportunities~ Kahoot provides many possibilities for teachers, some of these include:
1) The various options that Kahoot has for choosing characters, names, the games you want to play, the background music, theme, etc, allowing for teachers and students to customize their learning experience and optimize student engagement
2) Teachers can replace the task of creating and using some curriculum tools, which Kahoot, which teach saves time and energy
3) Due to the fact that Kahoot is online, teachers can get immediate feedback on both the achievements and the downfalls for the overall class and for individual students instead of relying on actual tests/assessments
Threats~ After posting a Kahoot game, it is automatically made public, which offers a lack of privacy and security. Additionally, the games can not be made anonymous, which some students may really struggle with emotionally. There is no censor for what can be put on/in a Kahoot game, so profanity and inappropriate images and messages may appear.
