Career Goal Narrative
The career that I have decided to pursue is Mechatronics Engineering. The general field of engineering interests me because I have always enjoyed building and taking things apart, as well as loving math and its complexity. I was prompted to enter this field by my grandfather because I have always made contraptions growing up, whether that was a random structure out of Legos or a random sketch of a contraption to make one day. Another thing that really made me like engineering is that, growing up, my grandfather taught me math above the level that I was learning at school so that I would be advanced and better at it. This has significantly helped me get further in math and improve my education for when I get into engineering in the future. I decided that this career was the right career for me in middle school after we got to experience different careers for career day. Before that, I had no idea what I wanted to be, but I was always drawing cool contraptions in my notebook that nobody had ever thought of, as far as I knew. I also loved the concept of being able to take something apart, figure out how to fix it, or buy/make a new piece for it, and put it back together.
I have taken classes such as Algebra 1 and 2, as well as geometry, and I am currently in PreCalculus. I have also taken Tech Center ATEX to help me take the first step toward obtaining my dream of being a Mechatronic engineer. It has really helped me because I have gotten to explore different careers, which could later help me with engineering when it comes to building things. I have learned great hands-on skills in my previous tech center classes such as fire skills, carpentry skills, and diesel tech skills. My math skills have greatly grown over the years, and I am very good with complex math. My writing skills have improved over the past 3 years as I have taken Pre-AP English classes and now an AP Lang and Comp class to give myself a struggle and to help me learn to get better so that the work will be easier.
I have participated in Color Guard for JROTC, and it has taught me skills such as followership skills, leadership skills, teamwork skills, and problem-solving skills when it comes to how to march in a certain area. This helps me be more prepared for a future in the military by preparing me for things I might do in the military. I used to do figure skating, and this helped me with balance, problem-solving, and other fitness skills. I have been employed once at my current job, and there I learned how to handle last-minute things that pop up, teamwork, and how to keep it a respectful work environment.
My immediate plan after high school is to join the army and take advantage of the free schooling so I can get the college I want and a better work ethic at the same time, also being able to travel places while in the military. If I do not go straight into the military, I will take a year off and travel before I enlist in the army, giving myself a one-year break from the 14 continuous years of school before I go back into my next four years of schooling in college.
Once I achieve my goal, I will work to solve as many problems as I can with the schooling and experience that I have, and help as many people as I can. I hope to have a positive impact on the world by creating something new that nobody else has that will change things for everyone in a good way.
