If you use the App, this Policy explains how we handle information in connection with the App.
This Policy applies to the IRSTMU mobile application for Android (and iOS, if applicable) and the information processed through features available in the App (such as sign-in, content, donations, notifications, and uploads). It does not govern third-party websites or services you open from the App (for example, payment pages or external links), which have their own policies.
When you choose “Sign in with Google”, Google may share with us (and with Google Firebase Authentication, which we use to verify your account) information such as:
Your Google account identifier
Email address and display name associated with the account
Authentication tokens used only to establish and maintain your session
We use this to identify you inside the App and to protect access to features that require a signed-in user.
Depending on how the union configures the backend, the App may read or write data in Firebase / Cloud Firestore, for example:
Notifications feed (titles, messages, categories, images or links as configured)
Gallery, achievements, or similar content made available to members
Union staff or authorised uploads (e.g. images or related metadata you submit where the feature is enabled)
Donation-related uploads (e.g. payment confirmation screenshots you choose to upload, where the feature is enabled)
Exact fields depend on union configuration and your use of the App.
If you grant permission, the App uses Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) to receive push notifications. This involves a device registration token associated with your device and, typically, your Firebase user account, so that notifications can be delivered. You can withdraw notification permission in your device settings (and the effect may vary by Android version).
The App may show on-device notifications (via the operating system’s notification system) when messages are received or for other App-related alerts, in line with your permissions.
When you make a donation or similar payment through the App, Razorpay (or another payment service if we change provider) processes the payment. You may be asked to provide or confirm details such as name, contact number, and payment method as required by Razorpay’s checkout. Payment card and banking details are handled by Razorpay, not stored by us in the App in place of Razorpay’s systems.
After a successful payment, the App may record a payment reference (for example a payment id) and related information needed to show transaction history or generate a receipt, as implemented in the App.
Certain information is stored locally on your device, for example:
Donation / transaction history you have completed in the App (as implemented using device storage)
Other preferences or cached data the App uses to function
This data remains on your device unless you clear app data or uninstall the App, unless we also copy it to our servers as described elsewhere in this Policy.
Where the App allows image upload (for example donation proof or staff uploads), we process the images and metadata you submit for the purpose of that feature (e.g. verification, display in authorised areas, or union records), subject to our Firestore rules and union procedures.
To operate the App we necessarily process:
Internet connectivity and related technical data (IP address may be processed by our service providers such as Google when you use Firebase)
Device type, operating system version, and similar technical information as logged by Firebase or related services for reliability and security
The App may open external websites (e.g. important links) or generate/open PDF documents (e.g. receipts). Opening a link or document may involve the third party processing data under their own terms.
We use the information above to:
Provide and improve the App’s features
Authenticate users and protect accounts
Deliver notifications and display union content
Process and evidence donations and show history/receipts where applicable
Operate upload features authorised by the union
Comply with legal obligations (e.g. financial record-keeping, if applicable)
Communicate with you about the App or the union where permitted
We do not sell your personal information.
Depending on applicable law (including in India):
Consent — e.g. notifications, optional uploads, signing in with Google where consent is required
Performance of a service — providing the App and features you request
Legitimate interests — securing the App, preventing abuse, and union administration, where not overridden by your rights
Legal obligation — where we must retain or disclose information by law
If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA) or UK, similar concepts under GDPR may apply; contact us for more detail.
We share information only as needed with:

We may also disclose information if required by law, court order, or competent authority, or to protect rights, safety, and security of members, the union, or the public.
Google and Razorpay may process data in India and/or other countries where they operate data centres. By using the App you understand that data may be transferred subject to applicable law and the providers’ safeguards.
We retain information only as long as necessary for the purposes above, including:
Account-related data while your account is used with the App and as needed after that for security or legal compliance

We use industry-standard practices appropriate to a mobile app (including encrypted connections to cloud services where provided by Firebase and HTTPS for network requests as configured). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we encourage you to use a secure device and keep your Google account protected.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:
Access a copy of your personal information
Correct inaccurate information
Delete or restrict certain processing
Withdraw consent where processing is consent-based (e.g. notifications)

India: Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and rules, you may have rights including access, correction, erasure, grievance redressal, and nomination; contact us using the details in Section 1. You may also contact the Data Protection Board of India when the regime fully applies to your case.

The App is intended for adult union members and supporters. It is not directed at children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the App, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
The mobile App does not use browser cookies in the same way as a website. Firebase, Google, and Razorpay may use their own technologies (e.g. tokens, device identifiers) as described in their policies.
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will post the new version with a revised “Last updated” date [on this page / in the App / on our website — choose what you will actually do]. Material changes may require additional notice where the law requires.
