Freedom for Fashion was a project for Bevrijdingspop 2023 Haarlem. I and a team of Fashion Designers designed a story and clothing in Clo3D.
Because all of us working on this are woman we wanted to focus on that. The story is about the forgotten woman in war. We chose the artist, the factory worker and the mother. You can see it as the rebellion of women fighting, just not at the frontline. The soldier and boy are also included to show that men didn't have a choice, they had to be strong soldier.
I designed the mother. I was inspired by Mother Earth and classic depictions of her in greek and roman artifact.
The video was also submitted to Rotterdam Fashion Week 2023.
The team:

Caitlynn Schijff- The Factory Worker

Life is the movement of an endless cycle. It is infinite and applies to every living being. A sacred process that we should cherish.
The Rise, The Bloom, The Decay.
This project was done during the Minor What Is Fashion? at Fashion Design at HKU. We were given the space to tell, discover and do. During this minor I was very inspired by nature, tactility and imperfection. The road to telling these parts through a story has been a long and chaotic one.
I started looking inside myself, what do I find so interesting about these subjects? And I still haven't quite answered that question. But asking this question made me realize that the connection we and all other living organisms have with each other is a very special one. The cycle of life is nature in its purest form, which feels sacred. That's why I wanted to investigate this further and above all I wanted to tell others.
During this project, in addition to telling a spiritual and intimate story, I also worked on tactility. I had never worked with fabric as a medium before and it felt so liberating. It was wonderful to discover many techniques.
I have also deliberately chosen to work with natural fibers, natural colors or second-hand materials throughout this project. In order to bring it even closer to nature, that if the clothes were buried, they would become one with the earth again.
