My name is Iris Duxbury and this is my portfolio which showcases my teaching experiences, philosophies, and development. I graduated from University of Oregon in 2025 with a Bachelors in Environmental Studies. In my final year I joined the Environmental Leadership Program, which is designed to give undergraduates the opportunity to develop an environmental ed curriculum as well as personally implement that ciurriculum with students in the field.
With ELP, I had the chance to take positive action in my community while developing my skills as a facilitator, communicator, and team member. I am excited to apply all I have learned to a career in sustainability and environmentalism.

My teaching philosophy aligns with my views of environmentalism. Which are as follows; a strengthened human connection to the natural world is essential for a sustainable future. I was able to take part in fostering that relationship with learners at the first grade level through environmental education. I was encouraged to deconstruct traditional student-educator power dynamics by welcoming all the diversities in knowledge that students bring to the table. I believe teaching can be most impactful when following the lead of the student.
By following my students' curiosity, and adapting to their sense of passion I gained insights and learned how to foster a personal sense of stewardship. Watching learners develop a strongly positive connection to nature and their local environments is emensely motivating and rewarding. It's what initially sparked my curiosity for environmental education, and it's what still holds my attention as being one of the most valuable outcomes of this work.
