Irakli Barbakadze

My name is Irakli Barbakadze. I am a research fellow at Judge Business School, University of Cambridge. I obtained a PhD in Management from Henley Business School, University of Reading. My research interest stands at the intersection of corporate strategy and political economy. In particular, I am interested in how firms engage in political activities (such as political connection, lobbying, and party contributions) and how these activities affect firms’ performance, economic development and policy outcomes. Currently, I am working on lobbying practices in the UK using the novel data of ministerial meetings between interest groups and government officials.

I am also involved in the POPBACK project, which studies how populist governments increase their political power by undermining the rule of law in the areas of the labor market and corporate governance. I investigate how populist transition affects labor regulation and shareholder protection in a multi-country setup.
