The Integrated Road Accident Database (iRAD) Project is an initiative of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) Government of India and the project is funded by World Bank. The objective of the project is to improve road safety in the country. In iRAD there are main 4 stakeholders who work seamlessly and share the accident information with each other department to collect more possible data about the vehicles and situations when accidents occur. In the project detailed information is collected by a Field officer from the Police department, IMVs from the Trasport department(RTO), JE from the Highway department and Medical Officers from the Health department respectively.
This will facilitate road accident data collection by 4 stakeholder departments
1. Police
2. Transport
3. Highways
4. Health Departments
The collected data of road accidents from all over the country is stored and analyzed by different data analytics techniques for the identification of accident-prone areas to form results to minimize the casualties of accidents or provide a remedial measure to avoid accidents in the future. The analysis output data is available to the respected stakeholders on their iRAD dashboard and from that higher authorities of stakeholder departments and MoRTH can develop strategies accordingly, because those strategies will be formed for the reduction of the number of road accidents and enhance road safety. NICSI & IIT Madras have been jointly entrusted to carry out the design, Development, Training, and implementation of iRAD project, along with research & analysis activities.
